🏈 LSU vs UF: Fournette against UF defender: Penalty, or no?

I get tired of how the offensive players are allowed to basically grab the defenders facemask on a "stiff arm" and the offensive receivers can damn near tackle a CB if the pass looks like an INT. Wouldn't be so bad if the defense had a fair shot, but anymore if they breathe on a skill guy it's a penalty.

At the least, it is hands to the face, 15 yard penalty. At worst, and probably spot on, punch thrown, 15 yard penalty and automatic ejection. That in no way was a stiff arm.

Really a penalty? He destroyed that DB, didnt look he was trying to throw a punch to me. He was running hard and trying to fling the dude out of his way (mission accomplished).

"Hands to the face" doesnt exist on a runner, stiff arms are on the facemask 90% of the time. Unless you grab the facemask it is not a penalty to touch the facemask.

The zebras in our game were shitty to say the least. Watching the replay of that run of LF above from behind. LF doesn't stick his arm out and simply "stiff arm" the defender. He draws back and delivers a blow to his head. If hands to the face can and is called on OL and DL play, and a facemask can and is called both offensively and defensively, then this fits in that category. The question of a punch would be up to the official to call. Running towards your sideline with your coaches barking and begging for every call definitely helps sway the judgement.

It looked like to me the DB had a hold of his pants/jersey and his "drawing back" was him reaching back and swinging to fling the guy off. You can even see him pulling away at the same time.

I don't think players mean to grab a facemask or jump offsides either. Fournette was trying to break free, but he literally took a swing at the defender. He punched him in the head. Intent is not a qualifier in the rulebook.

What? He hit the helmet with a closed fist. No question it should have been a penalty. Thought so live and after watching the replay.
