🏈 Livin' in the past for a sec; the jumbotron (update)

Just to change the subject slightly.

But does this mean that there will be no scoreboard or jumbotron on the South end of the stadium this Fall?

Would result in a pretty substantial part of the North End Zone and some of the northern-most reaches of the East and West decks will be without video replay during the upcoming season.

No skin off my back, just curious.

I've heard a few talk about plans to have the two new screens in place by the start of the season...the wiring is pretty well done...don't know for sure though.

Along the lines, they may have plans to have the new sound in as well...hopefully, the new cameras as well.

I'm sure they are moving at a rapid pace to get this expansion complete before next fall. I wouldn't be surprised if they have those big screens up in the corners for this fall.

Ah. Highly doubted they would have enough structural work done by the Fall to be able to attach the two corner screens to the new structure. Did not think UA would risk having them damaged by workers/equipment pouring concrete or hanging steel around them.

Guess maybe the supports for the new screens can be affixed to the existing structure. And it may be that insufficient progress will be made to the new structure to even rise up to the level of the new screens during the season so construction damage is not a problem.

I do remember you commenting that the new wiring would (or could) mean an upgrade to hi-def cameras. GOOD.

Would have to look up a link, but UF is adding a pair of new HUGE hi-def screens at Florida Field. One will be ATOP the South End Zone deck. Personally, I think it will look odd and out of place. Love Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, but all the ad hoc additions without a cohesive plan are beginning to make the place look like it was constructed out of tinker-toys by a drunk. Asymmetry has its place, but my football stadium ain't one. Bryant-Denny will be a true blessing on the eyes when the South End mirrors the North.

Interesting you bring that up.

In a conversation a week or so ago a few of my friends were complaining about not going with a huge hi-def screen in the south end zone. As soon as they said "I wish..." I waited for "because.." And, those "because" reasons were listed as Auburn, Texas, etc.

My thought doesn't mirror theirs because BDS is going to be very, very unique as compared to other stadiums in college ball. In fact, about the only thing you are going to find that will have the same feel are NFL stadiums.

I've sat in the lower section of The Zone and could see both screens mounted in the North end...upper middle? I don't know if they'll be able to if they don't end up mounting those in the S before the season.

One thing I've never looked at, or even thought about until today, was how those in the N end are mounted. I know they are below the upper decks, but I don't know if they are secured to the walk-ways, the sky boxes. I've just never looked.

On the cameras...

The ones they are using are literally almost 9 years old. Standard def Sony models...OLD. The screens now can handle a high def signal, but we don't have high def cameras...so that's going to improve. Of course, as an added bonus will be the PPV's improving as well.

If I could only remember the guys name that runs the ribbon boards...hell, he would know, but I haven't talked with him since the N expansion...and don't know if he still holds the same job for that matter...

Terry,

Do you work at the school or something ? You have tons of info. Just curious to how ya get it all. Just assumed you were working with UA or something of that nature. Thanks for all the info though !

that scoreboard picture reminds me of this

Been gone for a bit, so I'm late to the party. Thanks for reminding me of my favorite memory of 2008. :) What a special night! To this day the 36-0 score hasn't really set in yet. I really don't know that I'll be able to grasp the domination of that game for a while.

And to think the hubby says it was one of the most boring Alabama-Auburn games in recent history.
