🏈 Let's talk about Saban and the 2pt conversion.

At first I was afraid it was because he was nervous that we may need a late field goal to tie but now I realize it's because he's a genius! HA!

I don't like going for a two-point conversion unless you have to. If Bama had missed that conversion, they would have been up 30-28 and a FG would have beaten them. It's a moot point, of course. Bama DID make the two-point conversion. But the odds are usually not in your favor when you go for two.

I said go for two as soon as they scored. It was the obvious choice, really. Go for two and it's within a field goal. Miss it and you're really no worse off. 4 points, 5 points? What does it matter.

Of course, if we failed the 2pt and Georgia scored a TD after that, sure, you're in trouble, but the pros outweighed the cons.

Huge part of the game too. Georgia being down by 4 points really made a huge difference. We may have gone to OT if we had just kicked the extra point.

I remember Coach Bryant saying when you're down by 11, you go for two when you score a TD. That's what we did and it paid off big time.

Bingo. I am surprised by how many folks on this forum dont know this. It's simple math guys. Embarrassing.

You essentially have nothing to lose by going for 2 when trailing by 11. THINK. Football players generally learn this in Pop Warner. Fans should KNOW this.

ahhh..damn..now I feel burned :(

LOL definitely didn't mean it that way, was more or less thinking out loud, really. I know what you meant and that you wouldn't literally have thought he was an idiot, and it's just a common saying in football. But I'd just like to think we don't have any fans who would truly feel that way (though there may be some.)

I'm not a genius, but I thought it was too early in the game to be going for 2. I'm glad we made it. To indicate that anyone that that doesn't agree with you is stupid in my opinion shows how smart you really are. Better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Don't I recall a statistical analysis not too long back determining that there were slightly better odds by going for 2 all the time versus taking the extra point kick. I seem to remember another conclusion was not punting on 4th down in the opponents territory.
