Was Thompson recruiting Richardson? I noticed where he is visiting UT on the 30th.

Yes, Trent was in Thompson's assigned area.

But, Trent set that visit up the first week of January. It's not like it's a sudden move.

This was WAY over the line when it comes to board policy.
I was just saying what half the Bama fans are feeling! Candid yes, but when Ricardson goes to UT! I'm sure you will luv and respect Lance Thompson and Volnation!

If a mod went to the point of editing something you posted and said it was way over the line, I can easily assume it was the language you used.

Candid and profane aren't equals.

The point of bringing Richardson into this means nothing. That visit has been scheduled for two weeks now and has nothing to do with Thompson taking this position. UT has been after Trent for a long time.

Don't forget this point, if you want or value any employee enough, salary can easily can be met. If CNS wanted to keep him around, I'm sure he would have sweetened the pot. Sure he was a great recruiter, but not that hard of a sale with Bama and CNS at the helm. IMO

Reports have UT offering close to $500K.

Double his salary? He's not that valuable.

I don't know what you had to say rooski, but as you can tell I'm not jumping up and down about this one either. I think it's just a little too easy and convenient to say all this work out just fine. Maybe it will. We'll see. All I know is Tennessee is now firmly back in the state of Alabama. If (and I do mean if) Chizik succeeds in winning over more state prospects then things just got a lot harder for Alabama.

FWIW if Richardson switches for a coach that he won't even see except for halfway 'cross the field...then that's just weird. And yes, I'd be very upset about that one.

With respects to Thompson and the recruiting of Richardson (or for that matter anyone), when will he begin recruiting FOR Tennessee and AGAINST Alabama?

Somehow that seems like a conflict of interest in that it is unreasonable to think that someone could give 100% effort today in an effort that will hurt you tomorrow.

I don't understand why everybody is so concerned. As Terry said before, his position into the staff is not so critical, he's just an outside linebacker coach. Ok, he's done a wonderful job recruiting (specially bringing back the Mobile area) but Terry said it, nobody gave a damn about him when Saban built this coaching staff back at 2007. Well, I'm grafetul for his amazing job to help turning this program around but in my opinion, he's perfectly replaceable... At least his position into the coaching staff, and I think as a recruiter for next season.

RTR,

So I can't question his ways?

Sure, but it just seems the only thing I ever read is doom and gloom. Losing two assistants and a running back is not the end of the world. I just think some rationality is in order.

Have we lost any more than two assistants at this point?

RTR,

I couldn't agree more. All this hypothetical worrying (what if Trent goes to UT now) and fear of losing recruiting in roads made in Mobile the last two years is unnecessary. Lance is a great guy (he recruits my brothers high school--Fairhope) and a good recruiter. But guys it makes it a lot easier to be great recruitor when your head coach is Nick Saban. We will be fine.

So hiring an Alabama assistant that was born in Georgia and went to school at The Citadel makes UT "firmly back in the state of Alabama"? I don't understand that logic.

Granted, he's had some time in Alabama recruiting, but I would hardly say that puts him in a lockdown position.

This is going to keep on happening as long as we are successful. I wouldn't worry too much about this. Coach Saban was looking for a LB Coach before Thompson, and he will find replacements for these position coaches as well.

As far as Recruiting.. don't you all think that Coach Saban can get a handle on things? I mean its not like they come for Coach Thompson more so than Coach Saban. Relax, enjoy the ride. I have complete confidence that things will work out.

Stealing someone else's line...

If that were the case, why didn't we hire Thompson when Shula was here and pay him 4MM a year...

Not a big suprise in this day and age. Sure I understand it stings like every other Bama fan but we all knew coaches come and go under CNS. Sure the timing sucks but really, this shouldn't be a suprise to anyone.

We're 3 weeks away from NSD. Yes these are 17-18/YO kids but they aren't coming to Alabama because of Kevin or Lance alone. A guy from ESPN (I know) was on Jox just a little bit ago talking about all the tangibles that come into play and most kids know where they want to go at the end of the day.

Terry and Moreno hit it spot on. It will be OK yall.

I wish Coach Lance Thompson the best of luck at UT. Unfortunately for him, he didn't find a team that he won't have to see every year.

This is something we are going to have to deal with as long as Saban is here. McElwain was mentioned for a heachcoaching job this year,(New Mexico?) and Coach Bo Davis was approached by LSU.

It's been said a hundred times already, as long as we are successful, our coaches are going to be approached by other schools. If they stay, Roll Tide!! If they go, good luck!!

I didn't say "lockdown". I said "firmly back". In case you don't remember Tennessee hasn't exactly been making inroads into Alabama lately. Yes, Coach Thompson alone will get Tennessee back in the door.

Coach Thompson has developed relationships in this state in both of his "tours" with Alabama. I didn't say all recruits would flock to UT, but even the casual observer knows this only helps UT. How much so is left to be determined.
