According to BOL. This won't help recruting.
According to BOL, what position was him offered at Rocky Top? Thanks

RTR,

It doesn't say. It's premium content or I'd post it. This is from AL.com
Word is surfacing this morning at two campuses that Alabama outside linebacker coach Lance Thompson is set to join Lane Kiffin's coaching staff at Tennessee.

The University of Tennessee plane was in Tuscaloosa this morning for a quick stopover. Multiple sources say Thompson is involved, and a deal has been finalized.

This would obviously be a huge loss for Alabama's coaching staff. Thompson was the Rivals' recruiter of the year in 2008 and is in on a large number of prospects this year.

We'll have more as this develops ...

Didnt Thompson coach at bama before Saban?

Also, they were saying on the radio that Saban kept the staff working till 10:30 pm on xmas eve and this may have something to do with 2 members of the staff leaving. Any truth to that?

I know Saban is the man and all, but this one hurts BAD. Lance Thompson was easily the best recruiter on the staff. Every 5 star we have in this class he recruited. I hate that he will be leaving to a rival and direct competitor for our future targets. This class will stay intact and next year we will be signing a small class, so hopefully we'll be okay.

After watching the game it seems they should have stayed later than 10:30.

Maybe it won't be as easy for him to recruit kids to play for Kiffen compared to Saban. He is a helluva recruiter though. Nico Johnson, Fluker, Richardson, and others are the players he's specifically recruited this season. Julio last year, too. Hopefully Saban can plug somebody into his role.

Hmmmm, I view it quite the opposite. Bad investment of their time. :? You can only push so hard and then one tends to go from positive to negative.

No one knows this more than those who have been involved with the travel industry.

I might be the one negative apple on here, but here goes. I just can't keep quite on this one.

Possibly our top two assts. go to schools that are lateral moves at best and both are working for young, inexperienced HC's. Mike Shula couldn't have offered a UT asst. a million and gotten him to come, yet Kiffin comes and swoops one of our best remaining coaches. Do I need to go ahead and help Kirby Smart pack?!

When are Gene Chizik and Dan Mullen going to come in and take their pick as well? If I'm a CEO of a large company and my employees keep leaving for competing companies at the same job level you know what I'm doing? You want to know where I start first? With me.

I'm sorry but the hundreds of hours got us that performance against Utah... :x . If true that they were all working til late on Christmas Eve you mean to tell me that's what it got us? Hmmm, that might change my approach next time around.

At 4 million a year I think someone needs to re-evaluate a few things. He's a great coach, but can it do it alone? Don't think so.

I wish we could all leave our ($100k+)jobs because we have to work late on Christmas Eve. If that's the reason, good riddance.

Lots of nice coaches that get great results and don't have the demands of Saban. It looks like that fact is becoming pretty obvious.

I should stop.

Some people tend to forget we weren't supposed to get 12 wins this season...much less sniff the Sugar Bowl.

I don't know what goes on behind those closed doors, but after what Saban did this season...I really don't see how anyone could criticize the man.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to be so outspoken...but step back and take a look at the big picture. Saban has been and will be getting it done.

Coaches coach/prepare the way they know how. I'm not talking results, I'm talking responsibility. It's no secret what Saban demands from himself and the rest of the staff.

He is getting a raise and probably a easier work schedule. Can't say as I blame him. However, it may be that CNS is tough to work for. People have wives and kids and sometimes no matter how much you win or how much money you make, too much time away from home can take a toll.

I was watching that ESPN interview, the one when he first came here, and CNS said that when he coached his first bowl at LSU, he practiced the team for the whole month and by the time they got to the bowl they were worn out and they lost. He learned give them time off until about 2 weeks before the game and then start practicing them. So he knows that fatigue can take its toll on a team. I honestly think that the SEC Championship game took too much out of the team to expect them to get up for Utah. Lets face it, the only bowl that really means anything is the BCS Championship game anyway....

I wonder something, how is it to coach for Stoops? For Urban Myer? Pete Carroll? What about Coach Bryant? Did they too keep really demanding schedules? It takes a special person to work 24/7 and not get burnt out.

Lets just let CNS worry about this stuff, he may have had someone better in mind for the job and Thompson saw the writing on the wall. I mean of all the years that Coach Bryant was at Bama, how many assistants did he go through? Who do you remember besides Gene Stallings and Pat Dye?

merged to Thompson thread.

i know this year was good. we won 12 games and looked exponentially better in just about every area.

so... why does it seem like someone passed gas in a loaded elevator?

players leaving early for the pros and coaches bailing? i need some encouragement.

was there some sort of meltdown before or after one of the last two games?

Coach Bryant worked extremely long hours during the season. According to one of his biographies he usually got to his office around 5 a m and was often 11 p m leaving. He was always the first one there and the last to leave, but his assistants new they were expected to put in a lot of hours.

Georgia Tech's great coach Bobby Dodd had a reputation for a much more relaxed approach. There was even a story that once the season started he had his starters play volleyball on Thursday rather than practice. He had a great career, so it must have worked for him. Still, in the time when his career at Tech overlapped Bear's at Alabama, Tech only won one game. [/code]
