🏈 Lane Kiffins impact

Frankly, I can honestly say I was one of the ones that was excited about his hiring. I can also honestly say that I never expected to see this much of an impact on his part. He took a green QB under his wing and....well, made him what he has become. Granted Sims had some years in the system but I think the time spent under Kiffin brought him along way in a relative short time. The offense is ridiculous and he brought in some much needed fresh ideas. I could be wrong but I don't think we get into the playoffs without him. Again, another example of Sabans vision and what it takes to remain competitive at the top of the food chain.

I'll piggy back on that and say that I hope he stays around. Don't flame me for looking ahead, but can you imagine what Coker's NFL arm will look like next season? (Or whoever wins the job) Never ever ever ever ever thought I would say that about Lane Kiffin but the man has redeemed himself.

I agreed with the hire from the beginning. I did have to just erase my mind and his body of work as a HC though. He has done an outstanding job with Blake. I don't know how long he will stay (best guess is 1 maybe 2 more years to repair his image) but I look forward to what he can do with Coker, Cornwell, or Barnett.

One thing I'm glad about Kiffins is that he left Tenn for USCw. If he didn't then Blake Sims would have gone to UT. But, do you all think that is why Saban hire Kiffins?

I was shocked at the hire but accepted the fact that the man who hired him knew much more about him than I did. I'm so thankful for him being with us and hope he considers staying long term.

One of the major things that i think will be affected from this season and the current results of the Kiffin hire is this...........RECRUITS.

On the offensive side of the ball, take a look back at some of the talent that we've missed on. Granted we've done very well with what we've gotten. And some of those misses ended up being good misses (due to character issues)...But i dont think that would be a problem under our current staff. Plus we tend to develop the talent we get. But i think WR's will look at the program differently. As well as some QB's.

Julio Jones and Amari Cooper have destroyed that perception that receivers cant flourish at Alabama. Julio is one of the best receivers in the NFL right now and Cooper is a lock for a top 10 pick and the first receiver to be a Heisman finalist since what Larry Fitzgerald? I think more and more elite receivers are gonna decide to come to Bama same with QBs. Blake is the first QB to show that athletic, dual threat QBs can work in this system. Barnett may do the same.

I confess that I did not like the hire at the time, but in retrospect part of CNS's success as a head coach is hiring the right assistants. This hire is one of his best moves. Much as Coach Bryant decided in 1971 that the team could no longer win with drop back passing, CNS made the decision that we could not win continuing to play offense as we have played it, with emphasis on the power running game. He hired a coach well equipped both to teach a new quarterback and to take advantage of the quarterback's particular talents.

I think it's kind of interesting that Alabama's offense was so often characterized as "balanced" in 2012. The transition away from a mainly run-based offense really began with AJ being let loose in the 2011 BCS game, but, until the Sims/Cooper/Kiffin triumvirate came along, we had no idea that how dynamic the passing element of our offensive attack could be. Now, to Kiffin's credit, we integrate passing and running by throwing more to the backs - in effect blurring the distinction between passing and running - while using more conventional run plays to hammer opposing offenses in the 4th quarter.

@MissingRing, all of the screens we run to the WRs, are more or less run plays like the traditional toss sweep. You are right though. Having someone like Kiffin that will call the play more in various formations has given this offense a new dynamic.

My thoughts on the Kiffin Hire. I didn't like it too much and still think the guy is a time bomb, he always has some kind of shady way about himself, with that being said, if he gets with the right coaches and learns the right ways he could be a great coach. He obviously knows offense has some knowledge in Head coaching with bigtime colleges, attracts recruits, which tells me the players like him, develops QBs quite well, has all the upsides you could ask for. He has done well here, sometimes throws more than I like but he can coach. Coach Saban thought enough of him to hire him, but keeps him quiet and under wraps for the most part when it comes to speaking. If the guy can rebuild his reputation and learn the ropes from Coach Saban he could become a great coach. But until then I hold my enthusiasm in hopes that he learns from one of the best Coaches College football has to offer. He has a chance to redeem himself for sure and is on that path. I am pulling for him.
