šŸˆ DeBoer at the Senior Bowl on Simpson and Grubb

As Simpson enters his redshirt junior year, DeBoer praised his patience to remain at Alabama in the transfer portal era.

ā€œYou certainly appreciate what he’s done,ā€ DeBoer said. ā€œJust continued to work on what he can control and that’s himself. Continued to build relationships to get read for this chance that he has right in front of him to not just step up as a leader, because I I think he’s been doing that, but to have
that opportunity to step in and be the quarterback.ā€

After Grubb, who coached under DeBoer at multiple stops throughout his career, including Washington, was fired by the Seahawks, the speculation began. On Tuesday while attending Senior Bowl practice, DeBoer was asked directly: Has he considered adding Grubb to his staff in Tuscaloosa?

DeBoer didn’t say no.

ā€œWe go way back,ā€ DeBoer said. ā€œGreat friend of mine. Think the world of him as a football coach, obviously as a person too. And so, I know he’s working through his process, just kind of after what last season brought, so just gotta see what he does there and (I’m) here for him whenever he needs me. That’s always going to be the case.ā€
