🏈 Kiffins big Catch

He'll be the final brick to a rickety house. Tennessee is recruiting, not coaching their way into trouble. Any player that waits till EVERYONE else is done just wants attention, and Tennessee is gonna spoil him rotten IMHO.

He was a bit mouthy about not signing on NSD, as an obvious ploy to draw attention to himself. Miami was the front runner at one point, but when he wouldn't go ahead and sign they pulled their offer. This is a markedly different situation than Terrell Prior taking an extra day or two to decide between Penn State and Ohio State. It would shock no one if there were rumors about extra benefits in this situation.

There a lots of kids like him, my comments were directed more towards the likely headache that those around him might bring. Hopefully, for Brown's sake though, that creepy handler will cut loose of him now that the recruiting circus has concluded.

I dont know that much about him but IMO his running ability is pretty dang good....as for his waiting to sign and all that....dunno...but if he can back it up on the field and in the classroom...he may have a good future ahead.

There were a number of stories throughout his senior season about him being encouraged to "take it down a notch or two" in effort during ball games that were settled despite not being over.

Does that translate to a mentality that quits when things aren't going his way? That's yet to be determined.

I'd agree with your assessment of him being a hell of a runner.

BUT, as mentioned several times on this forum there is an impending problem ahead for UT.

They signed seven offensive lineman in the last three recruiting class. That's seven TOTAL offensive lineman. Putting that in perspective most schools look to sign 4-5, at least, each year.

Bama will have 18 offensive lineman on the roster in the fall of this season. UT has 9 on their roster, 2 reporting in the fall.

That's 2 deep, maybe.

They've got issues up there right now that go much further than having a talented running back. Who the hell is going to block for him.

OH, did I mention that at least 5 of those offensive lineman are seniors?

Kiffin and Brown were made for each other. Both come across to a lot of people as nothing more than spoiled, stupid, little brats.

As far as Kiffin goes, I bet he'll be long gone before he has to deal with the more serious issues that are likely to come from signing this kid. This whole pimp,... er...mentor thing, coupled with Brown's ME attitude (as described by Brown's own HS coach) and you've got the makings of a disaster of epic proportions brewing in Knoxville. It's only a matter of time before the NCAA comes snooping around, especially if the handler continues his relationship with Brown.

Terry.. I've been bringing up this same point.. I can't comprehend how the kid took so much time and chose a school that barely has enough linemen to run a scrimmage!! Not to mention the #1 all-purpose back committed.

I believe after this coming season they'll have 7 offensive linemen! They better pray for no injuries and that the staff lands about 10 next season.

I am much happier with Bryce as a Vol than as an LSU Tiger. They could actually do something with that talent. Bryce will be a junior before they can hope to have an SEC caliber line. HOPE!

Someone forgot to tell Butler that there are no prostitutes in Knoxville. All the women in Knoxville are volunteers.

Sour Grapes? Or, perhaps breathing a sigh of relief after avoiding a bullet?

You be the judge.

Opinion piece authored by the Managing Editor for Miami's Rivals site:

The circus that became Bryce Brown's recruitment came to an end today with Brown doing an about-face and choosing Tennessee.

With the nation watching the overall No. 1 recruit remained in a prayer session with his family in a back room at the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame, finally emerging 10 minutes later than his press conference's scheduled start looking calm and at ease.

With big brother and Cane LB Arthur sitting next to the podium, Bryce rummaged through a plastic bag, finally pulling out a Hurricane cap.

"This is for you," he said, handing the cap to his brother.

The room erupted in laughter.

And that's exactly why the University of Miami reportedly did not renew Brown's letter-of-intent.

The Canes didn't want to be made a laughingstock by a superstar recruit with an oversized ego.

A recruit who told Hurricane coaches he was committed to the program, and then cited God as a reason why he went back on his word.

"It was a spiritual decision I made," Brown said of choosing Tennessee. "When I first went down there I wasn't feeling it. But before I left I got the sign, and that told me I would be a Volunteer. I asked for (a sign) and God revealed it."

What was that sign?

Who knows.

Brown didn't say when pressed.

Perhaps it was a nod from Brian Butler or a look on Lane Kiffin's face.

The only sign Brown will talk about is the one he says he saw last year from the Hurricanes when the offense floundered under Patrick Nix. No matter that the Canes brought in a highly regarded new coordinator this year to turn things around.

Instead he is going with a new head coach that has promised a quick jump into the upper echelon. Brown says he sees Tennessee now becoming the next USC.

Apparently Kiffin is quite a salesman.

UM, of course, tries to rely on reality.

So what did Brown have to say as parting words to the Canes, who he never publicly decommitted from until today?

"Over the course I watched all of Miami's games, and offensively I felt they didn't know what they were doing," Brown said. "I met with the new offensive coordinator.

"It's nothing Miami didn't do. I just felt I had to weigh my options out and it turned out this way."

Brown didn't even list UM as in the picture at the end. He said No. 2 on his list was Kansas State, and he also said he might have gone with Oregon if he'd made a signing day decision.

It didn't have to turn out this way, of course. Brown didn't have to commit early if he wasn't sure. He could have decommitted when he opened things up instead of having his family insist he remained committed.

Brown could even have done something unheard of: Announce on Signing Day like pretty much every other recruit out there.

Instead he singled himself out for special attention. That was a warning sign to Cane coaches - Randy Shannon has always said one of the toughest things he has to do each year is getting five-star recruits to play with a one-star mentality.

Will Bryce Brown ever get that one-star team-first mentality?

If today and this recruiting process was any indication, probably not.

But he's not Miami's problem now.
