| FTBL Kenny Stabler arrested for DUI

One thing I'd love to know before we come down to hard on Kenny is what his BAL was. An average sized man can get a DUI after drinking 1 or 2 beers and not be anywhere close to being drunk.

It is a damn shame that he can't stay on the straight and narrow. You could not ever meet a nicer more cordial person, but his issues with drinking have really left a tarnish on his legacy. I have zero sympathy for anyone who gets nailed with a DUI, much less 3. That should be a mandatory 12 months in the pen, IMO. What a shame...

12 months in the pen? What about the guy that blows .001 over the limit. 12 months in the pen is a little harsh and borderline psychotic.

Also to be noted, on a weekend, that section of highway 59 in Robertsdale is speed trap heaven. The speed limit goes from 55 to 35 in less than a half mile. I drove thru there Friday and the Robertsdale cops were out in force.

That being said, Kenny has to know that too. I've spent enough time in and around Foley to see have seen Kenny out on the town a few times and personally, I have a tough time giving him the benefit of the doubt.

If I had two prior DUIs, I wouldn't eat a bourbon steak and get behind the wheel.

STATEMENTS CONCERNING KEN STABLER

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ? Below are statements from Learfield Communications Senior Vice-President Steve Gowan and University of Alabama Director of Athletics Mal Moore regarding Ken Stabler:

“Our thoughts are with Kenny and his family at this time. In circumstances of this nature, our primary concern is for Kenny’s well-being. We are in the early stages of the fact gathering regarding this situation and this is not the appropriate time to offer any further comment.”

Steve Gowan
Sr. Vice-President
Learfield Communications

“Kenny has always been supportive of Alabama athletics, and it’s in times like these that his friends need to be supportive of him. It’s my understanding that this situation is in its early stages and a lot of the information is still being gathered. With that in mind, I think it would be disrespectful and irresponsible to comment any further.”

Mal Moore
Director of Athletics University of Alabama

He needs the same treatment as the rest of us. Let his azz sit in jail for a little while, may keep him and my family alive alittle longer. One things for sure, we dont need this Bozo representing the Tide...

It's a little different to see someone else getting this kind of negative publicity and it not being a player.

As for possible replacements, I say let either Finebaum, Scarbinsky, or one of the ESPN analysts call Bama games

On a serious note, I say Barker gets the nod.

I admire Jay for what he did at the Capstone. But, I've also heard him commentate on games in the past when A-day was televised. He's not cut out for it.

If you get your 3rd DUI, I don't care what % you are blowing. I can think of very few things more irresponsible than driving a vehicle while drunk.

I totally agree. Think the world of Jay but his broadcasting voice is very boooooring. I find myself losing interest quick with him on the radio.

I hope you're kidding about Scarbinsky.

I hate "pc" crap like this. I understand that Mal can't really say anything, but "friends need to be supportive", "a lot of information is still being gathered", etc... is bull hockey. I love Snake, but it kills me in situations like this where he actually becomes the poor victim and we're supposed to support him and give him the benefit of the doubt. Forget about the police's take on this.

As some have mentioned what if he had hurt or killed someone any of those times? Would he still be in the victim role? Time to grow up, Snake, and start making big boy decisions and accepting the consequences.

Then again, we don't know the dispensation of the first two cases (at least I don't) and we don't know the specifics of this one. He very well may have been DUI, then again, he may have not been and refused the breath test and that gets you in the slammer, period.

Stabler is known for his party life. No doubt. But, calling for his job, calling him names, crucifying him is a bit premature right now.

While I respect the laws of the land, I also understand the other side of this matter as well. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt until the ruling of the courts.

Hell lets go big and get Rece Davis. Who needs color analyst when you can have two good play by play guys.

Hate to kid on a serious matter, but I don't see how Kenny will survive this one. I'm behind him on this though, even though I'm very disappointed.

We would all prefer for this to be a big misunderstanding and I would gladly eat my bozo description but if it is indeed true for a third time I'll stand by it and hope he seeks help.

Man, Snake was my childhood hero, watched him every game in the pros, with the Raiders, Oilers, and Saints.

I have never gotten a DUI, I have drove intoxicated maybe twice in my life. It scared me to think what could of happened the last time I did it, so I never have done it again.

Which brings me to my point, If you have already gotten one DUI, why cant a person learn from that ONE time. Snake needs help with his Drinking problem, period. I ain't gonna knock him, he needs help, and if he doesn't get help he will do it again, only next time someone might get hurt.

I wonder if his so called partying life has caused the NFL to halt him getting in the HOF? One wonders.

But how dare you say we replace Eli. Eli is the same to Alabama like Golden Flake and Coke. Honestly, how often do you know of people to watch a game at home with their T.V. volume turned down and the radio on just to hear Eli call the game? You don't hear much of that happening in ANY sport.
Well, if you watch the game in the stands or on TV and listen to Gold call the game on the radio, you are faced with the dilemma of having to answer the question 'Who are you going to believe, Eli or your lying eyes?' Far, far, far too often his words do not match the action my eyes just witnessed.

Gold is a horrible play-by-play announcer if such minor things as score, down-and-distance, and yardage gained or lost (and why) are important to your understanding and enjoyment of the contest.

At some point in our immediate history, I long for the day when our football (and overall athletic program) makes hiring-and-firing decisions based on competency and MERIT and excellence rather than 'who knows or knew whom' and 'because we have kept someone around so long - and beyond their effectiveness, that we should keep them around as part of our legacy.'

With all due respect you are dead wrong. Eli is one of the most accurate play by play men in the business and is highly regarded as such. It is possible that since you watch the TV and listen to Eli, what you are noticing is a delay in the game. Since the radio broadcast tends to be a few seconds behind the game.

Actually you hear the radio ahead of the tv. I started turning my zune over to the game this year and watching the game. Better than the tv announcers...geesh. There is a 3 sec delay on ALL live tv now. Thank you Janet Jackson's boobie and whatever his name is.

Robertsdale - Worst policemen ever (not condoning what he did).

It's like golf where you have illegal pins... r-dale having speeding zones that go from 55-45-35-25 in 30 feet should be illegal.
