| FTBL Kenny Stabler arrested for DUI

It is a damn shame that he can't stay on the straight and narrow. You could not ever meet a nicer more cordial person, but his issues with drinking have really left a tarnish on his legacy. I have zero sympathy for anyone who gets nailed with a DUI, much less 3. That should be a mandatory 12 months in the pen, IMO. What a shame...

I'm a fan of Kenny Stabler, but in the interest of public safety, he needs to be taken off the streets. Obviously he isn't learning his lesson and is putting himself and other drivers in danger.

UA can now let Kenny go, ang get Jay Barker in there. Or Tyler Watts. I think Tyler does a pretty good job. But Jay is more polished on the radio. Now, UA can get a guy in there our generation can relate to. Kenny is nice and all, but lets get up with the times.

Besides the radio side, Kenny has a 3rd DUI in a little over 10 years. Sad to say, he might be spending time in jail soon. Kiss his driver's license goodbye. I don't care what kind of lawyer you have. And can he get insured? Then community service and some sort of substance abuse program, or rehab if he can afford it.

His concerns are of a personal nature now, not professional. And UA might want to put some space between them and Stabler on a public representative front.

i think it's always tempting to wish excessive retribution upon a visible personality who commits wrongdoing. in this case, a third DUI is indeed despicable. however, we have a justice system, and it will deliver to Stabler his due penalty. meanwhile let's let his employer determine his employability without unnecessary criticism from the public. as for his performance as color commentator, i have no complaints.

I hate this. Kenny brought this on himself, but as Porter said, he's a dang nice guy. Hopefully he will get himself some help and get straightened out.
Be it right or wrong, he probably won't be on the broadcast any more. He's about the best color man I've ever heard. If he does get let go, my top 3 picks to replace him are (in no particular order)

Joe Namath - Another great former QB that all fans could relate to. Has experience doing color for NFL games

Roger Shultz - A good radio man from doing sports radio talk shows and also was the color guy for Troy's radio broadcast for a while. Did a great job for them. (This is probably my top pick)

Jay Barker - Good radio experience and a fan favorite as a player. Never heard him do any type of game, but I'm sure he can handle it well and with class.

And please, just say no to Tyler Watts. I liked him as a player, but in the few games I've heard him do on pay-per-view, I just don't think he would do very well.

And if they do replace Kenny, they might as well revamp the whole thing and bring in Chris Stuart to replace Eli.

Blasphemy!!

Yes I'm an Eli fan, and I dont have any complaints with Stabler either. I would hate to see either of them go but I do think Barker would be a good choice. Namath would probably be good as well but I dont see that happening. Schultz seems to have a good radio personality fro mthe few times I've heard him as well, but I dont think he carries the name recognition of Barker, Stabler or Namath.

It would be a SAD day if we had to listen to Alabama football games without Eli Gold. Swamptick is PRO PRO PRO Eli. Swamptick does not refer to himself in the third person very often so everyone should know how serious the Swamptick is.

Seriously though. Eli = best in the business.

While I like Kenny just fine as he relates to the program and what he brings to game day I do think that at some point your off the field actions have to eventually impact your status with that program. We see it all the time with players and coaches.

As far as replacements (if it were to come to that) there are people out there that would be good for the job and do well in it.

I hate this for Snake but like Porter elluded to, there's only so much sympathy you can have for this type situation. If it were ONE DUI I might...stress..MIGHT.. be able to find some rationale or reason why it happened. Dude, this is #3. Wholly unacceptable.

One can only hope that he gets some help for his alcohol abuse problem. It is a sad situation. Some cannot deal with fame and public recognition.

Joe Namath has had his own issues with booze, but hopefully that is behind him.

Keith Jackson retired for a reason, didn't like the travel involved with weekly games, besides Mr. Jackson is up in years, so how long could it last anyway?

Namath would not want it, wouldn't pay enough. I am a Namath fan too, but lets face it, it is common knowledge Namath is all about the personal appearance fees, he doesn't even appear at Jets reunions for FREE.

Barker is the most obvious choice, especially considering the generational thing someone has already pointed out.

ELI is here till he doesn't want to be.

I hope Stabler remains. That being said, there doesn't have to be a former star player, or even a former player, in the color seat.

My dark horse candidate to replace Eli with PBP, when the time comes, would be Jim Dunaway.

RTR,

Tim

For those supporters of Stabler continuing, I've got to ask--If this were the 3rd DUI for an Alabama football player, would he remain on the team? I'm thinking not.

I don't know if I would like hearing Namath. He slurs alot and talks kinda slow. JMO. But how dare you say we replace Eli. Eli is the same to Alabama like Golden Flake and Coke. Honestly, how often do you know of people to watch a game at home with their T.V. volume turned down and the radio on just to hear Eli call the game? You don't hear much of that happening in ANY sport.
