🏈 Julio and McElroy

Where is Julio????

I know the kid has all the talent in the world but he doesnt seem to even get looks from Greg that often.

Is Julio really covered that well on most plays? Seems that when they play off him 10 yards we could throw underneath out routes and let him make some plays. We did it last week once and gained 11 yards.

Guess I just dont see not getting the best receiver on the team more involved. Being a decoy or sucking up coverage has to stop at some point.

Any Ideas???

Maybe Mcelroy is still shakey on going to Julio..If you remember Mcelroy relied on julio each down the first game and it made him mcelroy panic when he noticed he wasnt open. Maybe he switched his mindset other recievers first then julio b/c he knows julio can make it happen if he has to force the ball or not make the best throw. So probably using him as a more of a fallback now other than the main go to guy, which sounds terrible using fall back and julio in the same sentence.

Also he is covered decent but Ive seen julio catch balls in much stronger coverage last year.

FWIW, right at have of the incompletions in the game today came with throws to Julio. We went his way seven or eight times, and he came down with two receptions.

I'm not down on Julio, but he doesn't seem to be the same as last year. He just doesn't look as quick. He's caught a few good balls, but he's just not as open. I can't blame GMac for not throwing his way more.
I've been thinking about this for a bit now. I don't know if Julio can't deal with being heavily covered on every play, or if he's just having growing pains. I hope it works itself out soon. Keep diggin' Julio!

We were all begging for the other recievers to step up and now they have. JJs touches will come with time, for now I like spreading the rock around. Teams will be forced to more more attention to the other recievers which will open it up for JJ.

Well other receivers are stepping up and making plays. I think that layoff hurt his timing with GMc. Also he might not be 100% atm /shrug I do not care as long as the the ball is distributed to the open receiver and good solid decision are made in the passing game. GMc seems to have a nack for it.

I do recall one play that went deep to the left where Julio had lots of separation and Greg underthrew him by about five yards, making Jones stop and wait for the ball. Other than that, I thought Julio made a couple of nice grabs and contributed today. Greg looks very stable and made some very nice throws. I'm just not overly concerned about this perceived "lack of production" from Jones. This offense is not about individual statistics.

Honestly, I'll take this offense over any from the last five seasons -- including last year's. This offense has the ability to find a rhythm that last season's never seemed to be able to.

I fully agree....some people are just spoiled....get used to it spread the ball around:td:

Hopefully today took GMAC out of the Heisman talk crap and we can get back to playing team ball and that includes every receiver on the team. If we win I could care less how many touches player A, B or J has...

Even if Julio got 10 balls a game and 200 yards receiving, Greg had 500 yards passing, and we won the NC neither of them would be winning the Heisman, so I don't care who catches what as long as at the end of the game it has Bama with more points than the team we're playing.

Totally agree.

I mean, I like JJ just like the rest of us, but I'd rather see us spread the ball to the open receiver versus rely on one guy or be so concerned over the production we get out of him. There is no "I" in team. Could care less who gets it so long as we win and play sound football.

Our offense is the best its been in YEARS. People are stepping up and doing what the team needs them to do. I can roll with that. GMac is spreading the love around. I have a feeling Julio is gonna break it open soon in one of these games.

I would believe this is more of an issue with JJ and Gmac not being on the same page. If I advised JJ, Id recommend putting in more work withGmac. I understand Maze, Hanks. McCoy, and Peek did that.

JJ is still one of the best recievers in the county, they just arent connecting.
