🏈 Jim McElwain will be the next HC at Memphis

If it does happen to be true, then congrats to him. I like McElwain and hope we can find someone that did as good of a job as he has (if the move is actually true that is).

I heard he was a heavy favorite, but that it wasn't a done deal.

They were saying on the radio that the last coach lasted 2 years. (at Memphis) If they are not willing to wait for someone to implement a system and get them where they need to be, then they deserve to suck.

Memphis' problems go much deeper than a revolving coaches door. They put ZERO dollars into the football program. The Liberty Bowl is more out of date than most of the high school fields, the city just put a bit of money into "Tiger Lane" (a place for tailgating) but the fan base is pretty low. The conference is terrible so you can win here (hell Tommy West did) but until the school decides to put some money into the program I just don't see this team ever being viable. All that being said, I hope he holds out for something better.

If the guy that has dropped all that Fed Ex money into their basketball program is now opening the purse strings for football it could be a good job. Otherwise he needs to hold out for a better offer.

My questions are: "How will he and Saban handle the move? Will he stay until after the bowl? Will he leave to begin recruiting and building? How will it affect the team's bowl preparation if he leaves early?"

That would be Fred Smith, however he is not putting any money into football right now. He was the driving force (along with Pitt Hyde AUTOZONE) behind the Redbirds AAA team and the new Autozone park as well as the Fed Ex Forum for the Grizzlies. The basketball program benefited from the Forum but this has always been a basketball town. I just don't see them ever putting serious money into the football program. I would hate to see McElwain come here, there is just no support and almost impossible to recruit amidst the SEC schools.
