The Denver Post's college football reporters give analysis, notes and minutiae on this blog devoted to CU athletics.

Alabama offensive coordinator Jim McElwain has interviewed for the Colorado head coach vacancy, sources close to the search confirmed today.
McElwain has been at Alabama since January 2008, and helped guided the Tide to the national championship a year ago. Before going to Alabama, McElwain was the offensive coordinator at Fresno State in 2007. He was quarterbacks coach for the Oakland Raiders in 2006.
McElwain was the assistant head coach, receivers coach and special teams coach at Michigan State from 2003-05. He also spent three seasons (2000-02) as an assistant at Louisville.
McElwain worked at Montana State (1995-99) as offensive coordinator, quarterbacks and receivers coach, and before that spent 10 seasons at Eastern Washington (1985-94).
Former CU star Eric Bieniemy, now an assistant with the Minnesota Vikings, interviewed over the weekend and remains a candidate, as does interim head coach Brian Cabral, who interviewed Monday, and former CU coach Bill McCartney.

it is coming from sources all over al.com ,tidesports ,denver post, nbc sports ,fox sports....looks like something may be up with all the sports outlets now reporting he interviewed

Two offensive geniuses with ties to Saban could possibly be looking for work this summer: Jason Garrett and Brad Childress. Now I don’t think Garrett would have trouble landing another OC job in the NFL (if he isn’t promoted to HC of the Cowboys), but Childress could be interesting. He has a ton of dough in the bank after the buyout from the Vikings so he might just take a year off. He could also take an analyst gig from ESPN. Still, I could see him hanging out with his buddy Nick in T-town for a year or so. Not saying it’s likely, just possible.

McElwain wasnt even on their goto list apparently.

So, let us see.....how many places has Jim McElwain failed to shop himself to in just three years here?

Colorado
San Jose State
I know there are or have been rumors of more.

He has not seemed to want to be here.

If he doesn't want to be at bama, and it was anywhere close to obvious, Saban would have asked him to move on out the door. It wouldn't have come down to keeping him around if his heart isn't in it, and I questioned that some this past season. I almost had myself convinced that he had already been promised a head coaching gig somewhere, and he was just mentally cashing it in at times, ala Dennis Franchione 2002 versus Auburn.

I'm not comparing McElwain in any other way to Franchione. Not even close. I don't have a problem with some of our offensive gameplans, just the playcalling at times was nonsensical.

But the real story as to why things didn't work out for us in 2010 was player EXECUTION. Blame the guys wearing the jerseys if you want to blame anyone at all.

That...or he just wants to get a shot at being a head coach? Can't blame the man for wanting to better his position in life, I really don't see how that means he doesn't want to be here.
