This morning I was listening to 94.5 and Jay Barker was really pushing the fact that if we didn't win this game that Alabama season was going to be a big disappointment. I couldn't DISAGREE more and very surprised he was saying this. Does he do this stuff to play to the Aubs?

I can't even begin to describe what a great job Saban has done to turn this program around. He has been here since 2007 and we have had 2 undefeated regular seasons. Thats freakin' awesome! Saban has done the best he could with the talent we had.

I don't even consider Saban to be a "full" strength until 2010. So anything previous to 2010 is just icing on the cake for me. I don't think anyone could have predicted how good we would have done the past 2 years. How quickly we forget, the nation made us a laughing stock on display before Saban was hired.

It's a big disappointment any time one fails to reach the goals one sets, regardless of what has transpired along the way.

I guarantee you the remaining players and coaching staff from last year's Bama team do not want to feel again what they felt after last season's losses to Florida and Utah.

Jay may very well just be trying to make the Barners feel better about their 7-5 season. I agree with bear, it is a disappointment when you fail. We have unfinished business to tend to this weekend and then again Jan.7th.

Jay knows first hand what it feels like to lose to Florida in the SECCG after an undefeated season. Specifically 1994. It will be a huge let down if we lose two in a row. There are no moral victories at Alabama.

Good point about the players on hand. This year's seniors (other than Cody) are Shula recruits. Next year's seniors are about half Shula, half Saban. Still, it is safe to say that the remaining Shula recruits have bought in to "the process". None of the coaches and players are going to be satisfied with the outcome if we aren't bringing home the crystal football from Pasadena in January.

I'm not going to argue with a man who helped win a National Title, and married this gal:

For us as fans, we have to be extremely grateful and pleased with the progress the program has made. I would have thought that this would be the year when we made a little noise, but instead it was last year. We are now a fixture in the top 5 and that's a big, big improvement.

You knew I was going to condition that statement though. It will be a disappointment to not be Florida. They are the only thing standing in the way of a shot at the National Title. Alabama fans got really spoiled during Coach Bryant's tenure, and now, we measure success not in how many times we beat Auburn or Tennessee, but in Championships. This doesn't go unnoticed by our chief rivals; it offends them. And that's because they measure all of their success by how they do against us.

Roll Tide, beat the Gators!!

Im beyond pleased with how this season has progressed!but...

If we lose tomorrow it certainly wont be considered a successful season though. (this is a compliment to our program)

WE play to win Championships. LEts go win one!:elephant:

I am reserving judgment to see how we play tomorrow and what the outcome is but I want to be clear that this has been another WONDERFUL season regardless of what happens tomorrow.

UT = Beat
LSU = Beat
AU = Beat
Second 12 win regular season in a row still playing with QUITE a few Shula players.
Amazing.
Second season in a row hanging out in the top 10 nearly all season.
Second season in a row beating down a highly ranked top opponent to open the season while programs like UF play directional schools to open.

It's great to be from Alabama.

I agree with this, but I also agree with Swamptick below when looking at what this season has brought.

Before the SECCG I'm delighted with where we are. After the SECCG, I'm sure there won't be anyone more disappointed than me if we lose.

NOBODY circles a calender better than HCNS! In 8 years in the SEC, he has lost to only ONE team in two consecutive years. And that was in his first 2 years at LSU way back in 2000 and 2001. NONE since then. Is 12-1 overall in that category.

In 14 years as a HC he has been shutout only once in a regular season(was also shutout by Stanford in the 1996 Sun Bowl while at Mich. St.) and that by Bama in 2002. Remember what happened in 2003? LSU kicked Bama's ***, and HCNS got so mad he almost had a stroke when Bama kicked a FG to avoid the shutout.

UF had damn well better have their "A" game in Atlanta!

This is the most interesting stat I've read today.

Jay has a point, to some degree.

The SECCG was the first failure of last season, and given a year to fix it, it would be hard to argue that the lack of progress relative to the success we had at this point last year would be seen as more significant that last year.

To be honest, heralding all the good not found in the Win/Loss column smells, tastes, and feels like a Moral Victory. And no one at Bama's training table ordered that off the menu.

Let me clarify my point a little.

We didn't "expect" to have undefeated season in a row at this point. What we did expect as a fan base is:
1. Improvement in the team
2. Improvement in recruiting
3. To begin being "competitive" in SEC play against LSU, Florida, Tenn, etc

SO we (I didn't anyway) didn't realistically expect this kind of success this early. Only if the stars aligned and everything went right did anyone in their right mind "expect" this. Florida was established and at the top of the SEC when Saban took over. We couldn't remotely dream Saban would have us even with them within 3 years.

So if we didn't expect it, we can't be dissappionted if we don't win. We should be happy that we are improving and AHEAD of schedule at the point. As I said earlier, I didn't expect Saban to be a full power till 2010 and that is when I figured we would start to compete heavily for SEC Championships.

I can understand people saying they are disappointed if we lose, but you have to look at the big pictue and take it into perspective.

From all I've been reading I get the feeling that the Florida fans, and also the Florida players, are taking this game somewhat slightly. Shades of '92 and '99? I think so. I see Alabama beatin' the gators pretty good.
