Coaches on the road:

Alabama DL coach Karl Dunbar is visiting Tyler Friday, Rivals100 defensive tackle from Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, New Jersey. Ohio State is also visiting with Friday today.

Alabama OL coach Brent Key will watch Clay Webb, 2019 five-star offensive center from Oxford High School in Alabama, wrestle tonight against Thompson.

Joe Pannunzio is visiting Patrick Surtain, five-star cornerback and Tyson Campbell, Rivals100 cornerback from American Heritage High School in Planation, Florida.

Brian Daboll will watch Justyn Ross, five-star wide receiver from Central High School in Phenix City, Alabama, play basketball tonight.

Mike Locksley and Tosh Lupoi will visit Jacob Copeland, four-star wide receiver from Escambia High School in Pensacola, today.

Burton Burns will see LSU commitment Kelvin Joseph, Rivals100 safety from Scotlandville High School in Baton Rouge.

Tosh Lupoi is visiting JJ Peterson, Rivals100 linebacker from Colquitt County High School in Moultrie, Georgia, and Quay Walker,four-star linebacker from Crisp County High School in Cordele, Georgia.

Alabama was the early favorite for Taylor-Stuart. However, the Crimson Tide did not start making a push until late in the process. He will take an official visit to Alabama in January. This could become a very good replacement for
Nadab Joseph
(who flipped to another SEC school).

So, Lugs is covering the All-Star game and "hints" about a player that isn't qualified and won't. (He has awhile, but let's set that aside.)

Bama commit, flipped to UGA and signed during the early signing period.

There's a different dynamic going on at FSU right now with so many African-American coaches being hired for on the field positions.

Personally I didn't see it as a good career move for Locksley due to Taggart calling the plays.

Ever heard about Brock Purdy?

He has offers from Kansas, Boise State, and UCF plus a bunch of smaller colleges. Nevertheless, Purdy has mind boggling stats playing in the toughest region of Arizona's largest classification. I think his 3-star rating is because of his lack of size.

Brock is fairly short at 6'1 (more like 6'0) and has very little muscular development. They list him at 197 but from the interviews I saw with him in street clothes, I'd say more like 180 (he's skinny but that is fixable). So, Purdy is a project in terms of getting him physically ready for major college football. Still, he has amazing skills.

This past season, Purdy passed for 4,405 yards and 57 TDs (a new state record). He rushed for 1,017 yards and 10 more TDs. Over his HS career, Purdy passed for 8,937 yards and 107 TDs.

In the 6A State Championship game, Purdy's second ranked Perry HS team from Gilbert, AZ (suburb of Phoenix) lost 49-42 to top ranked Chandler HS. Purdy passed for 322 yards and 5 TDs. He added 131 rushing yards for another TD. Purdy is Arizona's Gatorade Player of the Year.

Scouting Report for Brock Purdy

SIZE:
Brock has good size for a 2018 Dual Threat QB at 6’1” 197 lbs. He’s a tough competitor on the field with a strong desire to win.Watching his film reminds me of another play maker, Johnny Manziel, in his high school years. He sets the tone of the game when on the field.

ACCURACY:
When Brock’s in the game, things happen, plays are being made and the scoreboard is lighting up. He can hit on anywhere on the field. Whether it comes from on the run or in the pocket, he shows good accuracy. Very good throwing mechanics and consistency.

ARM STRENGTH:
He can let it rip for way back with high velocity throws, releasing darts throughout the field. His vertical passing game is deadly because of the threat of his running ability. Strong acceleration on his delivery.

RELEASE:
He has an over the top delivery with an arm motion that comes from way back. Because of this, he’s able to gain momentum upon his delivery. Very good body mechanics and footwork prior to set up.

THROW ON RUN:
Brock’s able to get to the outside in a hurry, seeking out potential targets while getting there. Very dangerous out in the open field because of his dual threat capabilities.

FOOTWORK:
He’s very elusive out in the open field, with spins and quickness. He’s very hard to contain once he breaks free. Shows good vision while on the run.

POISE:
He shows good awareness of the defensive pressure, able to move away from the traffic. He shows good patience in the pocket, waiting for his receivers to complete their routes.

POCKET PRESENCE:
He’s very comfortable in the backfield whether setting up for deliver or shifting to the outside for a quick hitter. Able to step up in the pocket or move laterally when needed.

DECISION MAKING:
Does a good job going through his progressions while on the fly. He’s an intelligent QB who seeks out big gain opportunities. Very decisive with his throws.

TOUCH:
Good touch in all areas of the field, short, intermediate and long. He’s skilled at taking something off the velocity of his throws when needed.

He would need to be redshirted to bulk up but the kid has incredible skills despite the lack of height. The impression I get from reading articles on him is that he wants to be on the big stage. If BAMA offers, he will likely commit.

It's a big weekend so we might hear something break. It would not surprise me to see a guy like Malik Langham pull the trigger this weekend. I do expect him to end up at Bama but you know how quickly things change in today's recruiting world. I'm confident in saying the Tide will sign two more defensive lineman--there's a good chance they may take three.

Since the NC game a few of the WR's Bama has had targeted have expressed their renewed interest. I saw Jacob Copeland even getting a debate on Twitter about whether UCF could compete with Bama or UGA.

I'd love to hear something from Campbell or Surtain this weekend as both are visiting. I doubt we will. Joe P's been working both of them pretty hard.

Other than those notes, not a lot out there right now that's ground-breaking news.

Nick Saban and Joe Pannunzio will have in-home visits with Patrick Surtain and Tyson Campbell tonight.

Both will visit Alabama this weekend.

The Rivals100 DT from New Jersey is set to announce his decision on Friday.

Alabama, Ohio State and Michigan are considered the finalists.

Alabama visited with the elite prospect last Friday.

Basically saying, don’t let Bama tell you what to do. Wondering if he is coming to keep tabs on Walker and try to get him to go to Tennessee.

What are the NCAA Rules regarding hiring a HS coach especially when it appears to be a "package" deal? probably ok with the package, but seems there are restrictions about recruiting the HS for a year or two? Wasn't this how Gus got hired at Arky? He brought his QB with him? Wonder if that was a bait and switch for Peterson's benefit or just a seeming done deal that was a figment of the press's mind?

There certainly was quite a few suggesting there might be a connection. I didn't see many mention the relationship with Pruitt although there were a few. I saw very, very few mention that Sherrer was his primary recruiter for UGA and he's on the Vol staff now as well. And, that's leaving out a few of the kids who played at Colquitt who are not at UT.
