Brock Purdy

, three-star quarterback from Perry High School in Gilbert, Arizona, received a recent scholarship offer from the University of Alabama. He was in Tuscaloosa this weekend for an official visit. It was the first time he has visited Alabama.
“It was amazing," Purdy said. "Just seeing the winning culture and everything, talking to Coach Saban and staff. It felt like a dream the whole time I was there. Just them explaining the system and offense they run. My family and I loved it the whole time.

"Everything was like a dream. The campus was beautiful. The facilities are the best I have ever seen. They are the best in the nation. It was just an awesome experience. It's great to see a place where I could spend the next four-five years. I just had an awesome feeling walking around the campus and just being at the university.

"My host for the weekend was Mac Jones. It was really good. He told me he had other options as well. He chose Alabama because he wanted to be a part of the winning culture and win national championships. He also wanted to get a good degree."

Alabama has hosted three quarterbacks the last two weekends. Princeton commitment

Brevin White

was also in Tuscaloosa this weekend. In-state quarterback
James Foster

took an official visit to Alabama last weekend. Alabama has a decision to make regarding quarterbacks between now and signing day.
"Coach Saban told me they have three offers out to quarterbacks right now," Purdy said. "They are only taking one. They are going to talk to the offensive staff and evaluate each one based off the visits. They are then going to go after one of them. He told me he thinks I would be a great fit and it's a great opportunity.

“I spent the most time with Coach Locksley at dinner. I was around him a lot. I also spent time with Coach Enos. He went around with us everywhere. He got to know me. I was around Coach Saban a lot as well.

“Coach Locksley has a brilliant mind for an offense. He said Coach Saban runs a pro-style offense. Only things they really change are little things. They are going to throw in some spread and do passing attack more.

"Coach Enos is a fundamental coach. He understands offenses really well. He is really going to help work on the mechanics with the quarterbacks. He can turn guys into true passers."

Purdy discussed a few other highlights about his trip to Alabama.

“My favorite part was just talking to the coaches and talking about the system," he said. "Being in the film room was realizing the reality of playing there. It was cool watching stuff they run. I got a good sense of how they like to do things on offense by watching film with them.

“The food was amazing. We ate a lot. I probably added 10 pounds. The steak and mashed potatoes we had was probably my favorite meal. The breakfast was amazing. The pancakes were amazing. They had a chef come in and make them. They were probably the best I've ever had.

"It was really great to go over to Coach Saban's house. It was cool to see all the pics from the era of him coaching at Alabama. He took us out on the golf carts. We went back to where his boat is down by the lake. It was raining, but it still looked really pretty."

Purdy is considering an official visit next weekend to Illinois or Texas A&M. He will wait to hear a final decision from Alabama this week regarding the offer. Coach Tosh Lupoi will also visit Purdy at some point this week.

What's the word fellas... He get the green light?! If not, who?

RTR. Thanks for the update

It's all dominoes at this point. Only coach Saban knows how they are set up. They just brought in a much-respected QB coach, who does he want? Enos loves him some play action and I'm sure he has more of a pro set mentality then otherwise. Another reason to favor Purdy. Someone is playing behind Tua and Jalen the next couple of years and then it's showtime.

I think the QB scholly is going to go to White over Purdy. White can hold a clipboard and get a ring or three then go to Princeton for grad school. Purdy wants to play. Enos and Saban will make the call sometime this week. IMO!!

10 days to signing day and I am frustrated that we haven't gotten anymore feedback from recruits on visits but it is what you can expect this close to signing day. They want to do their announcement.. hats on the table, pull out a baby elephant or whatever but I enjoy to hear the immediate feedback from the kids and their parents on the trip

I've seen several panic posts when this became a possibility, but I don't see the need to freak out. Every position at Alabama should have elite competition to win job and is it public knowledge that this is a scholarship being used???? I'm pretty excited that we have a plan B if Bulevos (sp?) isn't quite ready.

Per Andrew Bone:
BamaInsider.com

We've been hearing eight/nine more players while Nick Saban and the coaching staff are trying to figure out how to fit more players in the class. This is seriously in discussion in Tuscaloosa. I know most keep asking who are the final eight players. Saban wants more. Go figure.

I don't know what exactly will transpire during the course of the next 10 days as far as numbers are concerned. I do know the targets. I'll try my best to give update on where things stand with each one. This is all to really go by right now because there is no telling what or how some things are going to happen. Should be a lot of fun though.

The Quarterbacks

Brevin White, four-star quarterback from Paraclete High School in Lancaster, California

The latest:
The Princeton commitment received an offer from Alabama last week. He was in Tuscaloosa this past weekend for an official visit. There hasn't been much said about the trip, but Alabama does have interest.

Brock Purdy, three-star quarterback from Perry High School in Gilbert, Arizona

The latest:
Purdy seems like the most likely candidate to receive the offer. He is seems ready to jump on the opportunity. He spoke very highly about his official visit this past weekend. He also understands the value of redshirting for a year to learn from the quarterbacks who are currently on campus.

James Foster, three-star quarterback from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery

The latest
: Foster visited Alabama two weeks ago. He was in College Station this past weekend. He is scheduled to visit Florida State this weekend. Foster is likely behind Purdy and White on the recruiting board. Expect him to sign elsewhere.

Current thoughts: Nick Saban has made it clear he wants to add a quarterback in this class. Which one will the Tide pursue? A decision this week. I spoke with a few close to the situation on Monday afternoon. Coach Saban has yet to make a decision on which QB to heavily pursue. It should happen in the next day or two.

The Wide receivers

Justyn Ross, five-star wide receiver from Central High School in Phenix City, Alabama

The latest: Ross visited Alabama on January 19. He was in Auburn this past weekend. He will announce his decision at noon on ESPNU a week from Wednesday. Expect Ross to ultimately choose between Alabama and Clemson. Those have been his top two schools for a long time. The current feeling is Alabama. It's still a very tight battle.

Jaylen Waddle, five-star wide receiver from Episcopal High School in Houston

The latest: There hasn't been much change since last week. Alabama sent Mike Locksley and Josh Gattis for an in-home visit with the five-star on Tuesday. It's coming down to the wire. Alabama has been the favorite for several months. Jimbo Fisher and the new A&M staff have made things a lot tighter since his arrival in College Station. The current prediction is Alabama, but the Aggies are definitely in the race. Some believe Texas is a very strong contender, but expect Waddle to play in the SEC.

Jacob Copeland, four-star wide receiver from Escambia High School in Pensacola

The latest:
The former Florida commitment has been high on Alabama's recruiting board for a long time. He had a great official visit to Alabama this past weekend. Alabama continues to make him feel like a priority recruit. Copeland is extremely close with OC Mike Locksley and starting to develop a relationship with Josh Gattis. Copeland will take an official visit to Florida this weekend. Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Tennessee and Texas A&M are all in the race. I think he will chose between Alabama, Florida and Tennessee. My gut says he will choose Alabama or Florida.

Current thoughts: How can Alabama fit its three most sought WR targets in this class? The general idea has been to get two more receivers on board. Alabama has heavily recruited three targets for a very long time. Alabama will not say no to any of these players.

This may very well come down to who decides to commit first. Nick Saban will take all three players in a heartbeat. It looks like the best chance is with Waddle and Ross. I am definitely not ruling out Copeland just yet. He had a great official visit to Alabama. There is also a scenario where Alabama takes all three if a spot is lost elsewhere. Alabama is going to get two of these three players in my opinion. It won't completely shock me if they get all three, but I have no idea how they are going to make room.

Tight end

Glenn Beal, three-star tight end from John Curtis Christian in River Ridge, Louisiana

The latest: Beal took an official visit to Alabama this past weekend. Ole Miss was the perceived favorite prior to the visit. Alabama apparently has a spot if he wants to commit. Coach Saban likes him lot.

Current thoughts: I'm just not sure how Alabama is going to fit Beal in this class. I was surprised to learn about him having a spot. Who knows what may happen? There is a lot of back and forth going on right now inside the complex regarding the numbers. Coach Saban wants more than there are spots at this time. In the end it all may come down to the first eight/nine players who commit first.

The Offensive line

Nick Petit-Frère, five-star offensive tackle from Berkeley Prep in Tampa

The latest:
Things are really starting to heat up for the No. 1 offensive lineman in the country. Nick Saban, Brent Key and Mike Locksley will have an in-home visit with Petit-Frere this evening. He took an official visit to Alabama on January 19. He was in Gainesville this past weekend and travels to Ohio State this weekend. Petit-Frere has also taken official visits to Michigan and Notre Dame.

Penei Sewell, Rivals100 offensive tackle from Desert Hills High School in St. George, Utah

The latest:
Sewell continues to delay announcing his college decision. He just doesn't seem to know what he wants to do. Alabama, USC, Oregon and Utah remain in the race for his signature. He may decide sometime this week or could wait until next Wednesday to announce a decision.

Current thoughts: This is a position that remains up in the air. I don't expect Alabama to land both of these recruits. I do think Alabama gets one. Petit-Frere and Sewell remain in very close contact with Alabama. A little more surprised to see Sewell in the class because of the proximity to home. There is a little more confidence in Petit-Frere.

The Defensive line

Bobby Brown, four-star defensive tackle from Lamar High School in Arlington, Texas

The latest: Brown traveled with several family members two weekends ago. He seems very comfortable with his commitment to Alabama. Brown planned to take an unofficial visit to College State this past weekend. The visit did not take place. However, he is scheduled to return to A&M this weekend. This ceetainly causes more concern in Tuscaloosa with signing day a few days after the trip. Brown is expected to stick with Alabama, but you never know what may happen on a final trip. It will surprise me if Brown waits until Wednesday to reveal a final decision. Alabama, along with Texas A&M, will want to know something immediately following his visit.

Malik Langham, four-star defensive tackle from Lee High School in Huntsville, Alabama

The latest: Langham took an official visit to Florida this past weekend. He will travel to Tennessee this weekend for his final visit before announcing a decision on signing day. It will come as a major surprise if Langham does not sign with Alabama.

Current thoughts: I believe Alabama will sign Brown and Langham.

The Linebackers

Quay Walker, Rivals100 linebacker from Crisp County High School in Cordele, Georgia

The latest: Walker took an official visit to Auburn this past weekend where he declined interviews as he was leaving the facility. Surprised if he flipped to Auburn. Tennessee and Georgia are legitimate threats to Alabama. I know Walker had a great trip to Tuscaloosa a few weeks ago. He is a much needed recruit in this class. My current prediction is he will end up going elsewhere.

JJ Peterson, Rivals100 linebacker from Colquitt County High School in Moultrie, Georgia

The latest: Peterson took an official visit to Alabama on January 19. He is a very private recruit who does not speak to the media often. Alabama is still heavily recruiting him and would like to flip him. I think he will end up sticking with his commitment to the Volunteers.

Vernon Jackson, three-star linebacker from Boling High School in Texas

The latest: Alabama is not trying to push Jackson aside as some have suggested. Alabama wants to keep Jackson on board. He has taken official visits this month to Alabama, Texas and TCU. He is scheduled to take an official visit to Texas A&M this weekend. Jackson has led Alabama to believe he is solid with his commitment. He is only taking these visits to enjoy the recruiting process and pay respect to the coaches who have recruited him for so long. I think there is reason for concern especially with Texas and Texas A&M.

Current thoughts: This is about the toughest position to figure out in this class. Alabama is expected to bring in Jaylen Moody, two-star linebacker from Conway High School in South Carolina, this weekend for an official visit. Moody will likely receive an offer if Alabama loses Walker and Jackson. I'm not sure he gets one if Alabama only loses one of the two.

Keep an eye on a possible unofficial visit this weekend from Dax Hollifield, four-star linebacker from Shelby High School in North Carolina. Alabama is reaching out to a few linebackers this week to gauge interest and possible last minute visit. Hollifield has taken his five official visits. We will probably know something in the next day or two if he will visit. He may not be the only linebacker name to pop up this week as a potential visitor.

The Defensive backs

Patrick Surtain, five-star cornerback from American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida

The latest: I continue hear positive vibes regarding Surtain and Alabama. He took an official visit to Clemson this past weekend. He is expected to visit Miami this weekend. LSU is definitely still in it, but don't think he ends up in Baton Rouge. There is a lot of talk lately about this becoming an Alabama-Miami battle. I think Alabama wins in the end.

Tyson Campbell, five-star cornerback from American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida

The latest:
Alabama is definitely still in it for Campbell. A lot more than most people realize. Some believe he is locked in for Georgia. He could easily sign with the Bulldogs next week. He visited Tennessee this past weekend. He will visit Miami this weekend. Campbell will announce on signing day. Alabama remains optimistic with its chances of landing Surtain and Campbell. I don't think Campbell ends up at Miami after speaking to a few people down in south Florida.

Isaac Taylor-Stuart, five-star cornerback from Helix High School in San Diego

The latest:
Taylor-Stuart had a great time in Tuscaloosa this past weekend. Alabama was his dream school early in the recruiting process. Alabama kind of slowed down its recruiting efforts until the last few months. Tosh Lupoi has heavily recruited him and Alabama has become a serious contender. This is also a situation where Alabama has to decide what it is going to do. Do they take Taylor-Stuart and risk losing another player who is high on the board? His decision is expected to come down between Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and USC.

Olajiah Griffin, five-star cornerback from Mission Viejo High School in California
The latest
: Griffin took his first ever trip to Alabama this past weekend. He is the son of West Coast rapper, Warren G, and has expressed heavy interest in playing in the SEC. Some believe Tennessee is the favorite. Griffin hasn't said much since his trip to Alabama. We know Alabama is in the race. Does Alabama accept a commitment if he decides to pull the trigger? I know some will say of course he is a five-star. Not so simple. Alabama has several five-stars on this list. Eddie Smith is also higher on the board than some. I'm not ruling Griffin out at all. It's just a toss up in terms of what Alabama is going to end up doing at the position. Griffin will visit Auburn this weekend. He has also taken trips to Tennessee, Oregon and USC.

Julius Irvin, Rivals100 safety from Servite High School in Anaheim

The latest: Irvin took an official visit to Alabama two weekends ago after receiving an offer from the Alabama earlier in the week. Irvin traveled to USC this past weekend. There has been a little talk about Irvin possibly leaning to Alabama. I don't believe that is the case. He will announce a decision on Tuesday. Expect Irvin to pick USC.

Eddie Smith, three-star cornerback from Salmen High School in Slidell, Louisiana

The latest:
Smith had a fantastic official visit to Alabama this past weekend. He does not claim a leader, but I believe Alabama has the edge. He spent a lot of time with Nick Saban. His family is very comfortable in Tuscaloosa. Smith has completed his official visits. He will have a few more in-home visits this week including one with Karl Scott on Tuesday. Smith expects to announce a decision on signing day between Alabama, Mississippi State and Tennessee.

Current thoughts: The Crimson Tide has three defensive backs on board and it won't come as a surprise if three more are added. It almost seems like Alabama is trying to add four more DBs (not going to happen) by the amount of players who have been brought in for official visits. Alabama has done a great job bringing in players for official visits who were not considered targets a month ago.

I feel good about predicting Surtain and Smith in joining this class. I strongly believe Alabama will get another defensive back. It's just hard to say which one. I don't expect Julius Irvin. All other targets remain strongly in play. Alabama is going to sign a great defensive back class.

I'm hearing Alabama will try to bring in Leon O'Neal, Rivals100 safety from Cypress Springs High School in Cypress, Texas, for an official visit this weekend. We will see if the visit takes place.

Recruiting - BONE: Insider Report | BamaInsider.com

We are going to have a hell of a finish!

The ILB saga is super wild... Moody and Hollifield out of left field!

I'd love to see us get both OL's but doesn't seem like that's in the plan. Still love Stuart as a versatile DB.

Biggest deal is to keep Brown, right?! Most needed position. Sounds like Langham is on board also.

RTR

Both, J.J Peterson and Walker are about to make one of those life altering mistakes we all wish we could go back and undo. I'm not saying BAMA is the only school in College Football that produces top LBs, but we have a pretty good track record for getting guys into the NFL from this position. Couple that with being coached by a Legend and winning a Natty or two and it would seem to be a no brainer, especially with them having interest in BAMA for so long. Regardless, I see a wonderful opportunity on the horizon for Moody and/or Hollifield.

Just before we jumped into a "basketball weekend" I almost made a comment/post that would have read exactly like what you've said here. Over the last few years I'm a little vague on how many we've seen pull the trigger a week before NSD. I know it's not that many. The only "real news" we heard last year was with Mathis. In '16 the only "news" was when Jacbos committed and that was news mainly due to him being a relative unknown.

The other day I mentioned the possibility of a blue shirt in this class. I've seen a few mention gray as well. Here's something another option suggested in the last few days: there's a possibility Brannon and Bulovas aren't on scholarship for the spring (I fully aware we've seen it reported they will be but we don't know if they actually are or not.) I've heard there's consideration on over-signing and taking the penalty of losing two initials in '19.

I strongly suspect these last few positions left will boil down to how many defensive backs the Tide signs. I know they want to sign two more and also know they've considering adding a third. Who? Does it really matter? It's reached a point with these last few targets and any combination would be a good one. Griffin, Smith, Surtain, and Campbell: can you see a combination of two (or three) as a bad fit? I don't. I like 'em all (and wish they could sign them all.)

ON a side note: those that say "I stopped worrying about recruiting 1/2007" aren't really telling the truth because the majority of them are still trying to figure out them numbers themselves. I'm not "worried" about it but I'm definitely curious.

ALWAYS curious!! ALWAYS!! Fans know of the hard number of 85 and 25 and then we ALL assume on who gets in after the signings and commits! We all want to try and assume what CNS is thinking and "how will he crunch the numbers?" The things we know for sure, CNS will get us some monsters and he will make the numbers work!! RTR!!!#RollTide:rtrsign:

So if they oversign, it just takes away those spots in the next class?

Yep! '19 class is loaded too!!! We could have and will likely have a monster haul in the OL with 3-4 5* kids!!!! It means we may choose to risk losing one or two at another position, likely only take 1 QB, either Little Tua or Tyson, or lose out at another position.
