UA All-America Game: Where's five-star Ross most comfortable?
Chad Simmons • Rivals.com@ChadSimmons_

ORLANDO —
Justyn Ross
has taken the recruiting process slow. He has almost committed on a couple of different occasions, but over the last four or five months, he has really slowed things down, taken one official visit, visited a few schools unofficially and he is now ready to turn things up a notch.
"I have to get ready now," Ross said about the month of January leading up to his decision on Signing Day, February 7.
The 6-foot-4, 195 pound wide receiver out of Phenix City (Ala.) Central loves basketball, so around his hoops schedule, he will take official visits to Alabama and Auburn, host head coaches in his home and ultimately make a decision next month.
There has been chatter for a few months now that Clemson, an out-of-state school leads, so what does Ross say to that?
"Some days I have a thought of a favorite school in my head, but it is just not consistent for me yet. I can't say if that is Clemson or another school, but I have had that thought at times.
"I am pretty much down to Clemson, Alabama and Auburn, so it has been one of those. It is still really close between those three schools for me right now."
The only official visit Ross has taken to date is to Clemson. He took that in November. He visited Clemson for multiple games in the fall.
The feeling he has when there is big because that will play a role in his decision.
"I am going to a school where I feel at home and I have that home feeling at Clemson," said Ross. "They have done an excellent job of building a relationship with me and they have built a bond with my family too.
"They have talked to me about being their next big receiver and all that, but how they have shown me more about how it is like a family there is something I really like about them."

It sounds like very high marks for Clemson, but is there another school that gives him a better feeling than that? Ross did not use the "home feeling" with Alabama, but comfort level appears to be highest in Tuscaloosa.
"I would say I am most comfortable at Alabama because of all of the times I have been there to be around their coaches. I have been there a lot, so I know a lot about the school, I know a lot about the coaches and I am very comfortable there."
There has been some talk about Alabama behind the scenes and how you cannot sleep on Nick Saban's program with the top in-state prospect. Alabama's pitch is about need as much as anything with Ross.
"Alabama keeps telling me they need me to be their big receiver threat for them," said Ross. "They want me to be the down the field guy for them, so that it what they keep saying to me.
"They don't think they have a receiver with my size, so they point that out and they say I can bring something different there. I know I would have to go in there to work just like anywhere else, but they don't think there is a receiver like me on their team."
Auburn is going at Ross the same way.
"Auburn and Alabama are very similar in how they are recruiting me. Auburn is short in their depth at receiver, so playing time is a big thing for them when they talk to me. They want explosive players and they think I can help them.
"They think I could play early there and be that guy who makes plays down the field. I have a good feeling about what them and Alabama are saying just like I do Clemson."
Being from Alabama, Ross has a lot of Tide and Tiger fans around him. Many wish they could influence this young man's decision to choose their school, but he is not hearing the outside noise and it will come down to where he and his family feel is best for him.
"There is some pressure to stay in state and go to an in-state school, but I do not let it effect me. I do not pay attention to it and I just have to make the best decision to me. There is pressure out there, but I just don't hear it.
"Me and my parents have to be comfortable with the school. That is what it will come down to. I have to feel at home and very comfortable on that campus.
"I want my parents to have the same feel that I have about the school I pick, so that is something we will work on between now and signing day."

Latest on Quay Walker
At the end of practice today in Orlando, Walker decided to talk a little.

I had talked to a few sources, then putting what I heard from them with what Walker said today, I say Georgia is his top school.

He is still committed to Alabama, and I expect him to stay that way... I do not expect Walker to re-open his recruitment, but if he decides to go to Georgia or another school other than Alabama, then I look for it to be a flip.

He has been in regular contact for a little while now with Kirby and he is not worried about Kevin Sherrer going to Tennessee. He will take official visits to Auburn, Florida and Georgia in January with one to Tennessee a possibility too.

Alabama will not receive an OV. He said he does not need to take one.

If I was putting in today, it would be to Georgia.

Went from I expect him to committed to Bama... To if he decides to go to Georgia he's going to Georgia (shocker)... to he's expecting him to go to Georgia. Uhhh?! lol

SEC powers battling for more than a championship
Andrew Bone • BamaInsider.com@AndrewJBone

Two SEC schools will decide the title next Monday night where the two teams have already played this year. Alabama started its season in the Mercedes Benz Stadium with a 24-7 win against Florida State. Georgia defeated Auburn 28-7 in early December for the SEC Championship.
Georgia is playing in its home state, but Alabama feels just at home in Atlanta as the Bulldogs. These two programs also recruit a lot of the same players especially since Kirby Smart became the head coach in Athens.

It started early when Coach Smart flipped starting quarterback Jake Fromm from Alabama. Alabama has dominated the recruiting landscape for several years finishing No. 1 in eight of the last 10 years according to Rivals.com.

Each one of Nick Saban's recruiting classes have competed for a national championship during his time at Alabama.

Georgia is certainly a hot team on the recruiting front at this time. Georgia has won some key recruiting battles mostly from Georgia fan raised recruits. Alabama signed the best class in the Rivals era in 2017. Alabama will finish with a top 10, possibly top five class again in 2018.

An article came out prior to Alabama's game against Clemson describing the game as two dynasties passing through the night- indicating the potential end of the Alabama era and the rise of Clemson. Maybe the writer is eating some crow this week and moved to his next assignment unrelated to Nick Saban. Alabama reminded the college football world on Monday evening it is still a powerhouse program. This marks the third consecutive year Alabama will compete for it all.

Current battles
oncogvylmdmtxx3teqxs

Alabama commitment Quay Walker on shaky ground.

Quay Walker,
four-star linebacker from Crisp County High School in Cordele, Georgia, committed to the University of Alabama in June. He has continued to take visits outside of Tuscaloosa including trips to Athens, Auburn and Tallahassee.

Rumors and speculation regarding Walker's commitment have been going back and forth. He has remained relatively quiet regarding his recruitment for several months. He has indicated his commitment is solid, but it doesn't appear that way. It will not come as a surprise if Walker ends up flipping to another SEC school.

Tyson Campbell,
Rivals100 cornerback from American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida, is another prospect both schools like. Alabama was considered the favorite throughout the summer. Miami later appeared to take the lead. Georgia is now considered in solid contention. Campbell will take official visits in January.

Isaac Taylor-Stuart,
five-star cornerback from Helix High School in San Diego, is expected to take an official visit to Alabama sometime this month. The date is not set, but likely a mid-week visit. He is set to visit Georgia on January 26.

Alabama signed a pair of former Georgia targets on December 20.
Christian Barmore, four-star defensive tackle from Neumann-Goretti High School in Philadelphia, and Stephon Wynn, four-star defensive tackle from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

Georgia flipped former Alabama commitment Nadab Joseph, Rivals100 cornerback from Norland High School in Miami. Alabama was also in the top two for Brenton Cox, Rivals100 defensive end from Stockbridge High School in Georgia. Cox announced for Georgia on December 20. Alabama was also in the running for Georgia signees Zamir White, Adam Anderson and Luke Ford.

Future battles

Alabama commitment King Mwikuta

Alabama reeled in one of the Peach State's best prospects in the 2019 class with the commitment of
King Mwikuta,
Rivals100 linebacker from Troup County High School in LaGrange. Mwikuta committed to Alabama instead of the Bulldogs. A big win in the state of Georgia early on for the Crimson Tide.

Alabama lost one of its top commitments on Monday evening prior to kickoff against Clemson as Trey Sanders, five-star running back from IMG Academy in Bradenton, re-opened his recruitment. Sanders is also one of Georgia's top targets.

Alabama is eyeing several elite players in the Peach State including
Christopher Hinton, five-star defensive end from Greater Atlanta Christian in Norcorss (Michigan commitment),

Jaylen McCollough, Rivals100 cornerback from Hillgrove High School in Powder Springs,

Keiondre Jones, four-star offensive guard from Callaway High School in Hogansville, and

Derrick McClendon, four-star defensive end from Tucker High School, just to name a few.

Alabama is also back in the mix for
Owen Pappoe, 2019 Rivals100 linebacker from Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia. Clemson and Georgia are considered the top two.

Alabama and Georgia will battle for many other elite national prospects in the 2019 class including
Clay Webb, five-star offensive center from Oxford High School in Alabama,

Quavaris Couch, five-star athlete from Harding University in Charlotte,

Nakobe Dean, Rivals100 linebacker from Horn Lake High School in Mississippi,

Nathan Pickering, four-star defensive end from Seminary School in Mississippi.

Javier Morton, 2020 athlete from Stephenson High School in Stone Mountain, Georgia, has given an early commitment to Alabama.

Harrison Bailey, quarterback from Marietta High School,

Tate Ratledge, offensive tackle from Darlington School in Rome, and

Paul Tchio, offensive tackle from Milton High School, are some of the other early top 2020 players in the Peach State who will hear from the Crimson Tide and Bulldogs a lot.

Out of all the dumb schitt I've read/heard regarding recruiting/recruits, this is right near the top. A commitment basically has committed to decommitting later this month. I realize we're dealing with teens, but this one time I wish we could 'publicly' pull offer.

The hell? Just go ahead and decommit you pussy. Good lord where do these idiot kids get their intelligence from, or lack there of. Do what ya boy does, that always ends up well. I rarely make a comment towards a kid like this, but this is about as stupid as it gets, and damn sure as stupid as it sounds.

I'm good, and I know it will be fine, but we usually have more than that in the house by now. Just a weird year. Roll Tide!
Last year they had seven spots open to start the new year. This year it's eight. As I recall there were a dozen, or more, that committed after 1/1/16 for the class preceding last years.
