🏈 I've read a lot of stories about how Bama landed Josh Jacobs. Does anyone know how he came up on Bama's radar?

That's a good question.

I have no idea, but I bet it has to do with how CNS and the staff evaluate people.

Reminds me of the story Bob Baumhower tells of how he ended up at Alabama. Only D1 offer he had was to Vandy. Bama staff was looking at an O Lineman on tape that they were recruiting. Bear ask his staff, "why the hell aren't we recruiting the D Lineman that was eating his lunch the entire game"? Bob said there were several Alabama coaches waiting for him at the airport when he got home from an "official" visit to Vandy...........the rest, they say, is history.

It was a result of the staff (in this case Burton Burns) having "contacts" around football. There was a coach in Texas (7 on 7 guy) that contacted Burns and pointed Josh out ("look at his tape.") The rest is history.

A Texas coach, calling Alabama's staff versus that of Texas, or A&M, et. al...to point out a guy that was playing in Oklahoma. Truly a weird story.

It's sort of funny looking back because I recall seeing his name floated around for a few weeks before he signed. The majority didn't think it was worth the scholarship ... as in, why offer a guy who may end up being good when there were other running backs on Bama's board.

There's a good segment you'll likely come across some time today that covers Josh. It doesn't go into those details, but covers a few things like what he was going through with his family life, etc.

ESPN aired a special about josh yesterday ( when I saw it ) all about his early life from divorced parents to day dropping everything to go get him and his 4 siblings . Living in their vehicle, to motels . Very good piece ...

maybe it was SEC network.

That's kind of a Robert Lester story right there.

@TerryP didn't Burns look at the tape and then took it to Saban and Saban in turn sent Burton out to see him? At basketball practice or a basketball game? Coach Burns watched him and then called Saban and Saban said "offer him?" Is that part of the story or just what is becoming the "LEGEND of Josh Jacobs"?

Burns met with him and then watched him at a basketball practice. It was described as a eval that was looking for things that were wrong with Josh and they couldn't find any.

I believe it was AL.com who tried to put the story around his high school coach that was sending tapes out. That's true, but it wasn't his HS coach that sent the tape to Bama.

Yep, I heard it was his high school coach as well doing a late last second type ditch effort to help a kid he knew deserved more offers. Guess that wasn't 100% correct.

ESPN had a clip of Josh on signing day at his announcement where he got interrupted twice to take phone calls from people at Bama. The piece mentioned that Josh was waiting on Saban to make the final decision if Bama would take him or not. He literally was sitting down at the press conference to announce and left the stage to take the calls. Interesting stuff for sure.
