Looked to me that they never gave Bateman a full playbook. Most plays were very safe running plays. I would like to see Bateman given a full playbook with 1st team offense before Coker is crowned. Saban and Kiffin will do what gives us the best opportunity to win, I am sure.

All this talk about Coker....He will be as good as his o-line, receivers, and Kiffen allow him to be. He is slow afoot so he will need time to check down. His receivers will have to get open quickly and Lane has to give him throws he can make. He may not be Tom Brady, but few qbs are stars without a strong support system.

we're going to ride Coker as far as he can take us, no doubt about it. But I just can't get the feeling out of my head that he's going to be a fatal liability in at least one game.

I defer to the staff's opinion completely. If he is bad, he still must have been the best we had. It is a shame the kid will seemingly have to win the Heisman to dispel the opinions of people who are casting judgment off unreliable information they have read.

A lot of Bateman's problems stemmed from the fact that the second 0-line was in. The Wisconsin D-line was getting good penetration on them. It was noticeable also when Harris was running.

As someone else mentioned, Bateman is quick and has great footwork, but the offense noticably took a step back when he entered the game.
I think it's time to officially declare Coker the man, and give him the keys to the offense.
I think Coker needs all the reps he can get at this point, so I was a little bummed that they pulled him so early. What say you?

Everyone has complained that CNS hasn't given backup QBs enough quality playing time. Now you're complaining that Coker was pulled early. :headscratch:

I truly believe that Kiffin is creating two offenses - One which will be in hands of COker/Morris and the other for Cooper/Blake.

That is why they did not want to go with Coker-Morris since they are similar. They want a zone read option QB in case the OL does not do so well.

Yeah, they were so bad Saban made it a point to bring up their bad performance in the post game interview. The second string Oline gets called out in a post game interview.....you know they played bad. LOL!

That's what I thought. If that's Bateman's crutch, let's see it. Maybe the second team was in, I don't know for sure. So, let's see it. Who were they?

Did Bama shut down the game in the fourth? Yes. No doubt. Bateman was playing though for real in the third. In my opinion, (if you have my opinion and five bucks you can buy an overpriced coffee at Starbucks and support Planned Parenthood - so don't) Bateman has some great attributes, but maybe he's not as ready as Coker.

I'm not trying to defend Bateman. All I'm saying is it's hard to get a handle on him either way. If he would have had better protection would he have performed better than Coker? I don't know. We'll have to wait and see, I reckon.

Coker played very well overall in my opinion. He had a couple of snaps where he was late but to be honest I was happy it was only a couple. One of the sacks that most seem to blame on Coker was partially D Henry's fault also. He chipped at the defensive man instead of locking him up. I've seen several replays of folks lauding him for the pick up of the middle blitz (and that was good blocking) but no mention of that early poor effort.

I would have liked to see Coker get 1 more series but I was glad to see Bateman come in and at least get somewhat meaningful snaps. Don't know that it will be this year but the time will come when Bama needs the 2nd QB to be ready to step in. We've been extremely fortunate for a number of years in this regard but this could be the year.

If all goes as it should (don't tell CNS I said this) against MTSU then we should see Bateman early and I hope we see a more open playbook for him. I felt the conservative offense when he was in the Wisky game had more to do with where that game was in relation to "need to score" versus "need to maintain".

Overall I was very pleased with what I saw with Coker. He needs to fine tune somethings but what first year starting qb doesn't. I also think the staff put him in good playcalling situations as well. He wasn't asked to carry the load.

But at least he didn't get out there and completely crap his pants. Yes, his shortcomings are noticeable. But so was every college qb I watched this weekend. The "great" "Twelve Gauge" Cardale Jones has some obvious flaws. The key to it is for the staff to put him in the best positions to succeed. Considering what I was hearing from scrimmage and practice reports I think he did just fine. I had gotten a picture in my mind that he was going to walk out there with his knuckles dragging the ground and drool coming from his mouth.

Why is it that people dislike Coker so much they are making things up to make him look worse? Shouldn't you want him to do well? Sure, he isn't the most mobile, but he scrambled for a nice first down, and threw a TD while on the run. I wouldn't put more than 1 sack on him as several times those defenders came practically untouched. It is hard to make a legitimate claim about his accuracy when his completion percentage was over 70%. The long balls were essentially the only ones that didn't connect. You may have some unfounded personal distaste for Coker, but you can't base it on his performance in the Wisconsin game.

Overall I agree, I thought DH did a great job of blocking. In the play I was discussing the lineman didn't get a good chip and then DH's chip was ineffective IMO. Coker could have moved quicker and dumped the ball also. I also saw in the 2nd half a very similar play and DH held the block much longer and effectively.

Coker is the starting QB for The University of Alabama. His every move will be dissected ad nauseam I just don't want to knock him any harder than he deserves
