First off let me say its been a long time since i posted but I still come here often. Great place here! Noting like a loss to bring out everyone lol. Now back to post. Im not saying start Blake, but he needs some game experience. I mean he cant be much worse that what we have been doing but something is keeping him on the sidelines. Its obvious that Coker and Bateman really either can or want to be the guy. I now have more appreciation for what Blake Sims did for us last year. He had his ups and downs but what he brought to the table was the dual threat and elusiveness that masked problems we had last year that we still do with the O line. None of this has to do with other issues like the turnovers from kickoffs and defensive struggles, however, I really feel that the only way our offense finds a groove is with a mobile or dual threat QB. Do we not have a dual threat comitted i think his name is Jalon Hurd? I just wish Blake would get some game experience so next year we arent right back where we are currently.

Barnett was at the bottom of the QB depth chart. You want to move him to the top? He has the physical skills but not the decision-making skills. Defensive schemes and disguises are so much more complex in college that you can't expect him to shine like in high school. It would be a disaster to put him in right now.

Not saying move him to the top im saying get him some game experience. I realize that schemes are way more advanced in college but experience is invaluable. the kid has some amazing raw talent by all accounts. If he moves to the top next season he still will have no game experience whatsoever. Lets put him in there run some qb rollouts with the run pass option or option read, qb draws etc.

I agree 100%. This staff has tried to develop 5 guys and it's been detrimental to the position and team as a whole. At some point you have to pick a guy you believe in whether that's short term, long term. or both. Barnett is a great option IMO.

I do agree with you. Give him a shot at least! The only thing that scares me about Barnett is his size. I am afraid he will get ripped into pieces or get hurt, but we do need a spark

If he'S as good as everyone says, why not let him play since he'll be here three years anyways.

He's good from a talent perspective (he can pass and throw). He's not good (yet) in terms of defensive recognition and decision making in college football. Don't assume he'll only be here three years. His not making the top three on the depth chart doesn't lead to an early departure.

And our other quarterbacks have mastered reads and defensive schemes? You have to think in terms of the game these days, they want the NFL. Look at Eddie Lacy. By your words he never would have gone pro after three years based on his Freshman season. It takes one breakout season and they'Re off. I'll sit with my thoughts and think he should get an opportunity if the next few games don't improve. I'm not counting G us out by any means, just stating if we lose a few start looking towards the future.

Yes I would love to see him get some reps. I have heard

I do understand what you are saying. I love Alabama Football I want what's best for Bama, I know I am by no means a Football expert, but the QB play was no good. Alabama is extremely talented in all positions, the missing link is a great QB

My opinion don't mean nuttin, but I think Coker IS THE STARTER and let BB be the backup and get game time reps with the ones. We have to build for the future and not wait until the third or fourth game of the season to name the damn starter.

I agree that Coker is the starter. But I also agree that Barnett may as well get reps in this year. You gotta think that BB is anxiously waiting for the call up.

Seems a bit of a waste to burn a redshirt when you're a quarter through the season though. Tough call.

We've got a real "up and down" schedule coming .. ULM, then UGA, then Arkansas. Then we have TAMU, Tennessee, LSU, and Mississippi State in a row. Ouch. If we are gonna put in a new guy, it HAS to be now. It has to be ASAP and they have to be ready for UGA .. Throwing a newbie in to the wolves could be season suicide, but if BB can get up to speed by UGA .. Who knows.

Again, tough call.

Come on Folks, after last nights gritty performance, Coker will be the starter.

Especially, if it is true that he was sick. There will be nothing but RESPECT in the locker room if that is true. And IF so, that seems to be the missing link that Coker needs of which Blake Simms had...Respect goes a loooong way for the crotch crabber behind center.

I don't think you throw Barnett to the wolves just because Bateman and Coker haven't been lights out. If the intention is to get him reps, then do it. If not, keep the shirt on him. I honestly think that a true freshman QB could lead to 3-4 more losses. Is anyone on here willing to be happy with an 8-4 or 7-5 season, just to "build for next year?" I'm not!! We may lose another down the road with Coker or Bateman, but I think Coker may have won the team with his gritty performance Saturday night. While his runs weren't things of beauty, he lowered his head and fought for every yard.

They need a quarterback that understands the offense. It's obvious that Coker looks lost most of the time and Kiffin is REALLY frustrated dealing with him. They should use the one who knows the offense the best and does not turn it over (that's not Coker). Barnett should be used if they know he will be the guy going forward. I do appreciate Coker's heart last game but we can't have a guy giving the ball away like he does. He stares down receivers and makes too many bad throws and decisions.
