🏈 Injury updates on Jennings and Cotton--both out for the title game

I've got to be honest Terry... I've never seen him actually complete 1 impressive play. Seems pretty fast and apparently knows the D, but actually making a play is kind of important. Maybe he's a better fit covering TE's than the others but stuffing the run and a pass rush seem like higher priorities.
And that's perfect. If we went a decade and I never heard or saw much from the SAM linebacker that means he's doing his job.

Do you think there's anything Jim Chaney has done on offense that Mosley hasn't seen on tape?

I like Mosely in coverage against their TE's coming out. Hell, we know he'll have the right pursuit angles if they hit flats with their running backs. I can see him as a reliable guy for an offense like this.

Mosley is okay in coverage, that I'm fine with. Mosley pass rushing or playing the run is no bueno.

Jennings may be listed as a LB, but doesn't he really play more as a DE (with his hand on the ground)?
Hand was playing without his hand in the ground a bit Saturday. A few things going on ...

Bird is thinking base. I'm leaning towards a dime package approach. Ronnie's in run support with the two linebackers and Anthony, Levi, and Tony. They can get some rotation out of Mosely, Mack, Lewis, and Miller. Let's see them throw Deionte in the mix again. I don't know how health Holcombe is right now.

But yes, normally Jennings would be on the line--often with his hand in the dirt. Normally.

Any news on Cotton?

Good call. Amateur guess is he's SOL since he went to crutches last week.

I heard the interview on WJOX this morn with Phil Savage. He "mentioned" that Hass may have been the stop gap with Leatherwood as next man up with a week to prepare. Quite the conundrum for Saban, really... Play the slightly undersized Senior with experience or the mammoth green freshman with freakish talent. Maybe both?

I kinda like Hass personally. But Saban quit responding to my Emails last year...I guess it's up to him.

Like suggested, after their sessions yesterday the word was we'd see a group replacing Jennings. The only thing note worthy is Ray is going to be part of that group replacing Jennings as well. The scheme/plan they were working on yesterday had Ray playing on early run downs.

Why wasn't one of the "group" of LBrs that will replace Jennings out there with only a couple minutes left in the game getting some playoff experience ? With as thin as Bama is, and as disastrous any more injuries would be at LB I have no idea what Jennings was doing on the field.

I get confused between Jack and Sam... Who have our Sam LB's been recently?
Against Clemson is was Miller then Mosely. But, we didn't see the team spend that much time in base. The depth chart released by UA at the Sugar was based on nickel. Lewis has spent time at the position as well this year.

Anderson, Hubbard, Devall, Lee, and Evans to name a few. The best example of the SAM doing his job and no one ever heard his name was Jerrell Harris back in '11.

And your idea of perfection at Sam is Jamie Mosley?

Who would you rather have tomorrow night: Ryan Anderson or Jarrell Harris?

Every team needs role players but making special plays is necessary to beat a great team. Mosley hasn't sniffed 1 this season. If the others pick up his slack I guess it's all good...

You're taking my comment and quoting it out of context.

Consider what UGA brings to the field, who their dump off guys are, and you'll see what I'm talking about when you take Mosely against their TE's. You won't see Jamey getting beaten because he's taking bad angles or getting lost in a play. Could a running back from UGA beat him in the open field? Sure. They could Harris, or Anderson...any of them.

Bama started Hubbard for two years and I'll take Jamey over Adrian every day including Sunday.

I agree with you here. They will hit Woerner all game long if they can. Big tall guy. Isaac Nauta is a threat, which they didn't use against Oklahoma and that was puzzling, but he can get after it too. We definitely need a big guy like Mosley that can match up downfield with their tight ends.

Because CNS is a hard head he wanted to keep Clumpson out of the end zone. That's the reason.

Hubbard was a very good player in 2013. Re watch the ND game... Think he even had a sack or two. Mosley has 1 pass defended this year, no sacks, no forced fumbles, and 10 tackles (.5 TFL). He's played a lot of snaps. I can't think of a less effective LB in the Saban era than Mosley, but I digress.

The bigger issue to me is you don't see him make a play on the ball, or tackles behind the LOS, because the combination of instincts and physicality are not at the level of others on the field.

The way we've played offense, some special shit will need to happen on D. He's shown no potential of making those plays.

To me, you're trying to make a comparison in productivity between the two outside linebackers when they have completely different responsibilities.

Here you're stating he's played a lot of snaps but has few stats. Perhaps because he's known to do his job and teams aren't going in that direction? He's not effective but teams aren't running towards him? That's akin to saying a corner can't cover well but we don't see offenses attacking that corner.

If there is a team Bama has faced where they need strong fundamental play it's this one.

I'm comparing production to production. We're not comparing Mosley to corners, comparing him to others playing the same position.

If UGA is set on throwing to TE's all day and our OLB's are not rushing the passer or stopping the run, then by all means I trust that Mosley is a good option. Problem is they're OC get's paid a lot too... If you see Mosley on 1 edge and Lewis on the other, where you runnin'?

Hopefully we can limit first downs so that the D can stay in their preferred packages on 2nd and 3rd.
