Injury updates on Damien Harris, Alphonse Taylor

TUSCALOOSA -- Alabama’s bye week arrived at a perfect time.

The top-ranked Crimson Tide (8-0, 5-0 SEC) just finished up a tough, three-game stretch of games against ranked opponents at Arkansas, at Tennessee and versus Texas A&M.

On top of that, Alabama is dealing with some injuries that need attention. Senior safety Eddie Jackson sustained a season-ending injury in the Texas A&M game, and his positions in the secondary and on special teams will need to be filled before a road game at LSU and another difficult duo of games to conclude the 2016-17 regular season in LSU and in-state rival Auburn.

ā€œI think this time of year the open date is probably a good thing for us,ā€ Saban said Wednesday morning. ā€œWe had eight straight games and four really tough SEC games, so for some guys to heal up and rest us is important.ā€

During the SEC coaches teleconference, Saban also updated a couple of other injuries to a pair of offensive players. Sophomore running back Damien Harris appeared limited at Tuesday’s practice, and Saban confirmed that Wednesday.

ā€œHe’s one of the guys I referred to that probably needs to heal up a little bit,ā€ Saban said of Harris. ā€œLast two games he probably hasn’t had the same juice that he had before. Hopefully we’re going to get him back to 100 percent.ā€

Another player is right guard Alphonse Taylor, who has not seen the field since the first half of the Arkansas game because of a concussion. Taylor did not participate in drills Tuesday, and the staff will continue to monitor his progress.

ā€œShank did return to practice yesterday with no contact,ā€ Saban said of the senior offensive lineman. ā€œThese are things you kind of have to go through day by day. We just have to see how he progresses. We’re not really making any predictions but I can tell you that we won’t put him on the field until the medical staff feels that he’s totally OK to be out there.ā€

Someone said something about Shank losing his spot, But here it look like he been on the IR. I just don't remember him getting hurt during a game? What about Harris when he get hurt again?
