| FOOD I'm in the mood for a food thread. If it's boring? I don't want to hear about it. A twist on something? Yeah.

I'll start with something I'll call boring.

I smoked a ham. (apple.) Took a few "cubes" out of it. Mixed it with Philadelphia Cream Cheese ™ Then sour cream, REAL butter, and chives with some shredded cheddar cheese. That's the topping on a baked potato.

That was lunch today.

Challenge me. 🙃

brings up honey and biscuits
Bad news about the honey. My bees died out during the drought of August. I have zero hives left now. Lots of sad customers and family over that happening. My decline started when the state inspector showed up two or three years ago the last week of this month. I think I posted the story. I'll see if I can link it.Post #15

But definitely in favor of a food thread.

That sucks! Geez. Count me in that group. I knew you had lost some of the hives, I didn't know you'd lost all of them.

Are you going to "rebuild?"

Undecided. Will make that decision next February late, just before spring.

Patsy has reminded me we only have two jars left. Internal pressure may speed the decision process next year.

Do you buy the queens? Buy a hive? How does that work?

Back to food for a minute:

A light white wine and olive oil sauce with shallots, bell peppers, and tomatoes. Garlic Shrimp, and I'll put it over some Carolina Plantation Gold Rice. It's a Mediterranean style dish.

Several years ago I ran across someone mixing the Hidden Valley Ranch ™ powdered mix with REAL butter and using it as a "brushing" for loaves of French bread. That's in the mix today.

Now, get this one. Corn on the cob, left in the husk to cook...but you split open one side and stuff it with REAL butter and your favorite hot sauce. Today, I'm going with Frank's. I've done this on the grill, over a fire, but today's in the microwave. Three minutes...queen silver...oh damn it's going to be good.

Oh man. I just remembered I have some asparagus in the crisper...

Have you ever tried a peanut butter and ham sandwich?… don’t knock it till you try it..😉
So. This would be boring.

No. I haven't. I don't think I will. I'm picky with ham and sandwiches. It's mustard or horse radish, or both. I'll add accoutrements. BUT, I'm picky here as well. Swiss, or Jack Cheese is a yes. American. No. Melted, yes. Just put on a cold sandwich? No.

The ham was a little over 2lbs, I'm guessing.

I diced some of it up this morning that I'm mixing with bell peppers (yellow, red, green, and ugghh...orange.) That's going with Garden Rotini. (Think about the colors now.) Ken's Vadalia Onion salad dressing.

The "presentation" of this is as good as the taste. Again, the colors with you look at the peppers, then the Rotini, and I top it often with a few tomatoes.

Here is where the key is, in my opinion. Put it together, put it in the fridge, and make a point of stirring it every few hours. Don't eat it until 24 hours later...the dressing has set.

A few Club Crackers ™ ... yeah.

Dang you Terry, if you don't make me hungry. Have you try it without the wine?

@24and7 one of the most boring things I see in life is a menu at a restaurant. I did LOVE how @It Takes Eleven took one apart the other day. I don't want this, I don't want that, I don't want this, I do want that, with this. I do have a demented sense of humor. But, I can't tell you how funny I found that. That's why I asked about the burger in the other thread.

NOW.

Your "ham and peanut butter things?" That's a strike.

Gotta a question.

I know your beliefs. Do you have white wine/ red wine vinaigrette?

There is a Chardonnay ... Sonoma Cutrer puts it out. It's...I don't know, $13 bucks a bottle? I don't drink it...I use it to cook. Scallops, marinated in white wine? Oh ... yeah.

Tim will tell you. I'm a skinny guy. But it's NOT because I don't eat.

I just figured you’d have some leftover ham 😉

If there was one thing I was anal about, it would start with food. But, that list is dozen's long.

Here's a screwed up analogy. "It's a Costco cooking method." As long as it is moderated, in bulk, you're good.

This is boring. But, I'm going there. I've got Lima beans I grew last year in the freezer. Part of the ham is going in the freezer, right next to those beans. They need to get to know each other...

Terry it has nothing to do with my beliefs. But I'm going and try this.

I do think we should start a thread for food only.

That's what I was after ... but you know how we derail threads here. It's a staple. (yeah...laughing at myself, again.)

It's a good idea. I'd like to read some of the responses. IE: What's on your grocery list? What are you doing with it?
