Two receivers means only one is on the line of scrimmage or both are set back making defensive contact difficult. It's very easy for the outside receiver to cut in and chip/rub the inside DB while the inside receiver cuts out.

What I don't see is an answer to this question. Let's say they do tackle all the receivers. What do you suppose Watson is going to do?

One, see the flags and start running knowing he's got a free play and scores. Or two, even if he doesn't score they end up with an un-timed down at the one yard line.

If it's the second option, then we've got a discussion on what Clemson decides to do.

Fine (sarcasm) he choked or could've done better. CNS would be the first to critique that play a thousand ways to Sunday. But I think he deserves a pass, he's earned it. Besides he's got a pretty good reputation for working on past mistakes.

IF you're a 'Bama fan it might serve you well to just ease off for a second. Clemson was good, worthy to be a NC and our boy's didn't quit. You just cannot win them all, it's life...

I believe that's the point. If the receivers are tackled who is taking care of Watson? He's got a free play even if he doesn't score. If he does, penalty is refused. If he doesn't score ...

To me, better to man up and give it your best shot on defense versus tackling every receiver. When I first saw this mentioned one play from a few years ago came to mind.

Ideally calling a TO and putting the defense in a decent position to stop the play would have worked best.
