🏈 IF McElwain were to leave for another job, who would be a target for the coaching staff?

Call me crazy, but I think ol' Jobba the Hut down at Florida (Weiss) would be an interesting move.

Before you start throwing stuff at me, hear me out. He is currently trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear right now. All of Urban's speed/spread personel are not what it takes to have a pro style offense with a power running game. We have everything that Charlie Weiss would need to come in and make an immediate impact. Look at the offensive production at Kansas City the year before he got there, and the year he was there. The guy can coach an offense. I think with the pro-style offense we run and the people we have in place to run it, would make for a great marriage. Only question is, would Weiss be able to come in and do it the Saban way. By that I mean, would he be willing to coach Saban's 70% and him put in his 30%. I'm sure with Weiss background he might be able to sale CNS on doing a few more things because their offensive philosophy are along the same line. Just something to think about. I don't think it would happen, but I like to ponder it.

While an intriguing candidate, I doubt seriously that Saban would want his fat ass on his sideline doing nothing for half the game. I also doubt, that Saban would be willing to shovel out that much cash. The man can coach, but he often times looked like a foul ball in high weeds when over on the sideline. Coming to a school like us, he would have more of those more pro-style guys in order to put in his offense and have it florish.

weiss needs to ditch the shirt and pants idea and just graduate to overalls. the pants keep getting higher and higher. it's hard to look at.... yet it's hard to not look.

i think that any OC that "throws more to the tight end" and would "quit running up the middle so much" would be fine. :dazed:

Reports out there tonight are saying that he pretty much accepted then withdrew his name from the Memphis job. Tells me one of 2 things. He either realized what the hell he was about to do and came to his senses, or he is about to jump on something else. Like Fresno. Either way, smart move to avoid Memphis.

Arizona State and Colorado State very well could have come into play as well.

IF we do have to replace him and we hire from within I'm betting Groh gets a serious look.

When he hired McElwain I joined the masses in saying "who?". With the success CNS has had with his searches (can anyone tell me the last Alabama QB to not make an NFL team?), I'm inclined to sit back and threat these situations like Christmas -- be presently surprised.

well it seams Bama will be getting a new OC and I agree with LBS on being pleasantly suprised.

Fresno State has to wait two weeks before they hire so this ios going to get ineresting with the BCS game coming up also hiring a new OC.

We had this conversation on Mac when he was hired. I remember saying, "has anyone here watched the video of his offense last year?" Specifically, his use of four tight ends in one game.

Think about that...his use of TE's and people bitching about the use of TE's. Who's offense is this?

Still thinking Groh gets a promotion if Mac moves on...
