Applewhite going anywhere? I like what he's doing. We just need some more horses.

It's the same O that posted 34 on LSU for petes sake. That's ridiculous to think play calling did us in today.

We've got about 12 hrs left before we move on and forward.

I hear you, billfish. To put the onus on Applewhite is wrong. If the players had executed the coach's plan, State, instead of Bama, would be looking at a defeat right now. We had receivers open for TDs on more than one occasion and the passes simply were not delivered. Two or three times our backs were a step away from breaking one all the way. One play I distinctly remember was when a State player shoulder pad-collared Lowe just as he was ready to break into the secondary.

Like a said, there's gonna be some sick players if they go back and look at the game film. The Tide could have returned to Tuscaloosa with a 30-3 victory had they executed better. That is what makes this defeat so difficult to take, and the fact we got beat by a perennial low-tier SEC team.

Yep, Yep and Yep Bearfacts.

Just a little time left in the 24 hr rule. Time extension granted for those in Mississippi. I would think BAMA fans have a hardship rule granted for this one.

Nick Saban doesn't compromise.

True.I bet he can't even say it! Sorry Miss fans we're all in this together.

Play calling and games plans can be adjusted during the game but I feel like we continue to lose the line of scrimmage battle. The offensive line is getting beat...thats all there is to it. Whether it be from attrition or whatever.

The running game suffers...the holes are not there. QB protection continues to breakdown. I think we look awful up front.

Exactly. We have about 4 and half hours left. If anyone is still pissed, they might want to consider breaking something before the deadline.

It hasn't been consistent for sure.

It seems the same people always find something to complain about.

Oh, and PT, go crawl back under the rock that is AUNation.

We need a whole new coaching staff. ^^CHILL

*Edit*

Just to let everyone know...this was meant to be sarcastic.

I think the lost is by only one play, no more. If the call had been different (yeah, the call is terrible), 'Bama had won the game easily and this thread wouldn't exist, it's that simple. But we can not blame Major Applewhite or Saban's hirings, and I don't think Saban is unhappy with his job, simply (as someone has said before) we don't have the players we would have to have now, and the LSU day, in spite of our amazing job, was showed. The difference (in talent) between both teams was huge.

I think we need to develop and to go on with the work in our offensive line, we need to win the battle in the trenches. Our puss-rush really sucks, we haven't developed yet any disruptive force, we need skill players in the skill positions, we need more playmaker, etc.

I think the product hasn't taken off yet, it's early, but we need continue working in this process. And the future is bright, not doubt guys... Only think how the nation respects The Tide now.

RTR,

why why WHYYYYY are some of us already trying to crucify CMA? the ones who are act like he should be putting up Jimbo Fisher/LSU numbers or something. i looked at some stats comparing our offense through Saturday to our offense at the end of the 06 season (bowl game included).

06
34 TD, 29 XP, 21 FG, 1 safety, 298 points, 22.9 ppg. 8th ranked total offense in the SEC
JPW pass avg/game: 216/379 (57%), 10 INT, 2707 yards, 17 TD, 208 ypg. 5th ranked QB in the SEC
red-zone: 40/53 (75.5%), 20 TD. 7th ranked RZ offense in the SEC

07
33 TD, 31 XP, 2 2-pt conv, 21 FG, 1 safety, 298 points, 29.8 ppg. 6th ranked total offense in the SEC
JPW pass avg/game: 203/373 (54.4%), 8 INT, 2231 yds, 14 TD, 223.1 ypd. 4th ranked QB in the SEC
red-zone: 37/43 (86.4%), 25 TD. 8th ranked RZ offense in the SEC

guys, we're pretty much right on track with last season. some categories have already exceeded last season, some will be pretty much even, some will be exceeded. we SHOULD (i hope) put up some numbers against UL-Monroe, and UGA has shown what we already knew about AU's secondary. last time i checked, we have a pretty decent deep threat. you can't expect CMA to come into the SEC from RICE his first year and blow last season's stats out of the water. the fact that he is meeting or exceeding those numbers in his first year should be pretty promising for someone his age and ability. the offense of 06 was in its 4th year and we are meeting or exceeding those numbers in the FIRST year of a new, fairly green OC. just think in 2-3 years when some excellent recruiting and experience really starts to shine. let's think past our noses here....

We also gave Applewhite a contract extension about a month ago, so someone has got to like the job hes doing.

I like his play calling, its questionable sometimes, but thats because said thing didnt work. Well, you learn from that. However, if it had worked, hed be a genius right now, like he was against Tennessee.

I said it on like three threads, but I really like this guy as our OC. Patience guys. This is it, this is the best staff we have had since Stallings, and I cant wait till they get more time to work with the players.

I firmly believe this is a better staff than the one we had under Stallings. When it comes to recruiting, there leaves little...no, make that NO doubt.

In every breakdown we've had this year on offense you can point to a breakdown in coverage. That coverage, is in the blocking schemes.

I don't discount that JPW tries to force some plays at times. Sometimes that works, other times it leads to disaster. (see the 100 yard INT return this past weekend...he should have just taken the sack.)

If you consider the number of OLmen that were recruited the last few years and then consider Saban is already looking to replace them you have to draw one, and only one, conclusion.

Shula wasn't a good talent evaluator.

To further prove that point look at our defensive backs as example. We are playing a freshman and a sophomore (who didn't play in the defensive backfield last year) in a group that pre-season was considered to be the strongest unit on our defense.

will be having a major come to Jesus meeting tonight. Applewhite better be ready for an all-nighter. Me thinks he and Saban aren't on the same page.

I know there have been rumors of Saban not being happy with Applewhite and his play calling at times. I hear tid-bits in his press conferences, but I think Applewhite is making the transition along with the rest of the team. His potential is obvious, but like the players he needs experience. That, he is getting.

Some teams are able to transition from old coach to new coach and old staff to new staff without trouble. We weren't so lucky this year. But then we know we don't have all-world talent and depth.

I won't make promises or guarantees. None of us can. I'm not quite ready to kiss this year off just yet.

I hope we still have some celebrating left to do.

Given that it's a) their first year, b) a new system, c) they're coaching 100+ players they didn't know a year ago, and d) the program was a train wreck when they took over, I'm willing to give them more than 10 games to get us back into the top tier. Be patient and it will all come to us.

Many of you guys have totally misunderstood what I was trying to say about Applewhite.

Let me give you an example. OK, take the goal line series. After watching Grant run up the middle twice and then JP throw the int for a TD, don't you think Saban and Applewhite will sit down and review that series? Don't you think Saban will suggest many some other ideas for success in that situation?

At his press conference he mentioned that if blocking was executed we'd have a TD. I trust that would be true. Then again, if blocking was executed on many plays we'd have TD's. Maybe that was a pretty general statement; maybe it was specific to just that series.

No, Coach Saban didn't come out and criticize play calling on that series. I'm glad he didn't. But to think he won't take that back to Coach Applewhite and brainstorm for future situations is ignorant.

At very best this type game can be a valuable learning tool for coaches and players alike. The question is will it be applied and used as such for the rest of the year or will it have to wait til next? I guess at this point that is only a question that the players and/or staff can answer.

Realistically, if that play is called, 8 out of 10 times it should work. It was a naked bootleg where most of the times the DB's release and cover the run. The problem I saw was there should have been a TE to block on the line. At least, I don't remember seeing one there.

It's a "touch" pass in that situation as well...which was thrown off by the blitzing MSU player. (Brown?)

Not a bad call in my opinion...just not executed.

The problem was it ws 3rd down they were not defending the run on 2nd down yes but not 3rd, thats the bad playcallng I was talking about earier.

Applewhite tries to be too cuite Gary Donaldson pointed that out in a previous game he had with us.

Plus the Texas spread offense is not agood offense to run.
