🏈 I think it's both safe, and fair, to call this "Gumpin'" for Fan Day Sunday...

Likewise, we went only once, in 1993 I think, and it had been raining all day so they moved the "signing" inside the indoor practice facility. We waited in line for Coach Stallings and my son and daughter got his autograph. He shook my and my wife's hands and I asked if we could get a picture with him. He said "sure," I handed the camera to some grad assistant and he snapped our picture with Coach Stallings. Very quickly, Coach Stallings said "take another one, I think I had my eyes closed." The GA took another picture, we thanked Coach Stallings and the GA and moved on. When we got the film developed Coach Stallings was right, his eyes were closed in the first picture.

Besides everything else I appreciate about CGS, I have always appreciated that in spite of the crowd / line he took the time to make sure we had a good photo of him with our family. I've wondered if CNS would do that but then quickly come back to reality and remember that CNS never shuts his eyes.

Well, after all, he is the Chuck Norris of no blinking.....or is Chuck Norris the Nick Saban of no blinking?

Two things. First, I enjoy being competitive, setting goals for myself, trying to be the best at things, but first in line at fan day 7 years in a row? Come on....

Secondly, WTF is that in the chair next to him?!?!?! Edit, its on the table, not in the chair, but still....?????

Wayne, @Bamabww I was a walk on for Coach Stallings his first year. He always took the time to talk with each one of us, scholly or not. He knew everything about our hometown, parents, siblings, etc. My wife went to a calendar signing that he had about 15 years after I had come through. She was making small talk with him and said that I had been a member of his first team. He asked my name and he immediately told her my hometown, my parents occupation, and asked if I was still coaching. I love Coach Stallings!!

My wife had a picture of her and Saban taken at a player reunion in 2009. She used that photo on Facebook for the year. The following Spring, we were talking to Saban at a pre-A Day event and she mentioned how she used the picture and it must have been good luck. Saban's response was, "Well heck, we need to take another one" and he started to pose. He knows when to schmooze and when to kick ass.

Do you remember a guy named Curt ( or Kirk) Lawson? OL walk on?

@rueben, I'm not sure. I have had so many names come across my path in my 21 1/2 years of teaching and my time coaching. I can't say that I recall that name. I was a walk on QB that came in with Coach Curry and went thru that first season with Coach Stallings.
