what is going on with Alfred McCullough and Michael Williams?

In an article from last August, Saban said McCullough was one of the best 50 players on the team. They have been having trouble getting him on the field as a defensive lineman, so in the summer the were experimenting with him playing Offensive Guard. I haven’t seen an update on how that experiment was going.

I still don’t think we are 100% sure if Williams will play DE or TE. With his size, my guess is he will take over the blocking TE role from McCall next season with Smelley taking over as the pass catching TE from Walker.

Just the little bit I’ve heard about them. Someone else probably knows more.

Here's another one of the reasons not to trust everything you read at rolltide.com...

They list McCullough as having a RS year last year. He was one of the players that played in the WKU game, got hurt, and then the staff applied for a "hardship year" and were turned down. So, he's actually a sophomore this year.

It's my understanding it is the goal of the staff to redshirt him this year. (as an offensive guard)

Williams has pretty much been slated to get a 'shirt year from the start of the season.

i was curious about Alfred due to Cody's injury and the need for more depth at NT.

i was curious about Michael because i've been disappointed at times with our lack of pass pressure. i figured he might be an ideal DE for passing situations.
