🏈 I don't get it

Fear of cries of "Witch Hunt" targeting (insert name of potential group of victims here).

So Bob who is the right handed, left eye dominant, dyslexic, middle releif pitch gets caught with it in his car. Unless you test every student athlete at you school, you may have to defend the rightousness of you drug screening to the:
  • Right Handers for Right Rights group, and the
  • Left Out Left-eye oversight Coalition, and the
  • Anti Pick-Off Baseball Players Federation. And do it all among a gathering of high priced lawyers.
This could all be done everytime some student gets caught, or they could spend the same money checking the kids everytime one gets caught, or check them randomly on a schedule that is financially affordable.

Because Marijuana is much safer than alcohol and cigarettes and shouldn't be illegal in the first place. Any sensible person would agree that it isn't worth being suspended for a year over it.

In a way i kinda have to agree with this. The banned substance rule was introduced to combat the use of PERFORMANCE ENHANCING drugs. Which we all know pot si not in any way enhancing anyones perfomance what so ever....unless thier on a scholly as an Xbox 360 player. To the contrary....IMO it's a perfomance REDUCING drug.
So while pot, to some may be imoral, it only vilotes the LETTER of the rule and not the spirit of the rule. It does viloate the LAW. So from that stand point the NCAA has to moral authority to rule it out.

Speaking of doing somthing imoral......can we all pitch in and by 5 pounds of home grown and send it down to UF the week before they come to t-town? lol Not that i'm worried mind you...but anyone needed a good toke to chill out Urban Crier does. lol

I dont understand why u can be suspended for smoking weed but a one game suspension for getting a DUI is sufficient enough. So what the NCAA is saying is that its better to get drunk and endanger the lives of you and everyone on the road by driving than to smoke a joint? Wow.

Guys, I'm not arguing whether Mary Jane should or shouldn't be in their list of banned substances (although driving while stoned is DUI), it just seems very very odd that since it IS in the rules, why wouldn't the NCAA demand that the school test for marijuana if they are arrested for possessing it. As for crying foul, if it's a school policy that you get expelled, and you get caught by the police with it, no drug test needed. You're out. If it's not a school policy...

Comon Shipley, they're college kids! lol just the regular students alone are going to drink and smoke when not in class or working. For every 10 clean college kids you show me that don't at keast drink...even socialy, i'll show you 100 that do. It's part of the culture. and a right of passage i guss. not that i agree with it. So if they tested the entire student body from coat to coast.......they'd have to expell 75% of the college student population in the country.

There's 4 reasons you go to collage......
Education
Sports
Party
Sex

and 18 year old Kids still lack the emotional matruity to have the ability to focus on little else. At leat i didn't at that age.

I admit I was a bit surprised to learn that MJ was a banned substance under NCAA rules. My thought was that issue was a law enforcement issue and if an athlete (or any student) ran afoul of the law the school would handle the discipline according to its regulations and applicable law. Perhaps that is why the NCAA is reluctant to step in under these conditions. Of course if an athlete tests positive for it in one of its random tests their rule is clear and unbending.
