^He did sign a guy from Hawaii, some guy named Peter Kim, pretty good kicker for Bama.

Peter was a transfer from UofH who walked on and earned a scholarship. First soccer-style kicker at Alabama.

Why is the name George Mardoni something I can't get off of my mind? Wasn't he a kicker, soccer-style, from the Middle East.

Bowl games were rewards for great seasons....dont remember the stile chain saw texas mesquite bowl or any others....with such sponsorships....
Orange bowl, sugar, rose....few minors...liberty bowl , bluebonnet, others I dont remember...wasnt many though
That was one justification for naming the NC before bowls...so there was no pressure ....just pleasure....
The other thing..hard to believe....Bama didnt have or recruit black players...( till the 70s) they all went north...to play or at local black schools...ie Grambling...why Eddie Robinson legendary HC at Grambling turned out so many great players...
Things have changed...The BEAR is legendary....and regardless of any controversy...his legend is solidified...

I am just basing it off someone who played for Bryant. I do not know if he purposely went to an even flimsier tear away or it just happened that way. He was told to try and spin out or pull in the opposite direction, if they got a handful of his jersey. In this case, he was not a ball carrier but a LB, trying to get away from being held at the LOS. I figured they would tell the same to the ball carriers.

Only those that carried the ball wore the tearaways. Everybody else had the polyester mesh. The tearaways were only worn during games, so there was no way to practice "pulling away."

I have my jersey and it's the standard jersey mesh. I also have the tear away version (cheap cotton). When you put them side-by-side, you can see how flimsy the tear away is. The mesh could tear, but not likely.

You want playing time???? We had freshmen STARTING or playing a SIGNIFICANT role each of the last three championship games (yeah we played in the last three STRAIGHT!!)

You want a good education? Alabama has become a great school academically, and our graduation rate is 2nd only to STANFORD!! Many of our guys leave with a MASTERS degree!!

You want fun? Tuscaloosa is a LOT of fun- just remember- nothing good happens after 2 AM

You want facilities? We are probably in the top 3 and NO ONE has it BETTER!

You want to get to the league??? We have averaged 4 first rounders a year- we have All Pros, pro bowlers- you won’t just get drafted- you’ll succeed and make BANK!

You want fans? There’s nothing more important here than ‘Bama football- and our fans are the BEST!!
