🏈 Hot Seats and Coaching Changes - EX UA coach, Billy Napier to ULL

The silly season for coaching has just gotten an early start. I think it will challenge to be the wackiest in some time. If not for a healthy buyout, Coach O could add to the ranks of unemployed SEC head coaches. UF, Ole Miss and UT are certainties, Arky could be in the mix, and late season swoons by A&M and aubrun could create openings. Mizzou gets a mulligan, I think. I do think Mullen ends up at UF, putting their coaching search into motion. I think I just mentioned every West Division opponent.

I can't remember if I raised this before, but a buddy and I were talking about head coaches who coached at two different SEC schools. I can't think of a coach who was HC at three SEC schools. Coach Bryant did coach at Kentucky and A&M, but that was well before A&M joined the conference. Other than that, we couldn't think of any who'd served at three. There's Spurrier, Nutt, Muschamp, Orgeron, Saban, Holtz and I'm sure others. If Muschamp continues to mature as a coach, he's probably the best candidate to move to a third SEC gig, with a higher profile than USC. I could see him at LSU in two years.

RTR,

Tim

Don't forget that Nebraska is looking for a new guy. A new AD will want his guy in there.

He's always struck me as a fund raiser versus a coaching talent evaluator.

I wonder about Ole Miss, Tim. IF they are indeed slammed as we expect, can we really expect them to look elsewhere (outside of Luke?) He may be the best candidate available (and willing.)

@It Takes Eleven You thoughts/conversations about HC's with more than two stops in the SEC...wonder who has the highest number in the SEC?

Kevin Steele came to my mind. He was at UT twice, at Bama twice, at LSU, and now at Auburn.

If you meant assistant Coaches, here's some that have moved around.

Woody McCorvey; Bama, Miss. State, Viles & SC.

Ellis Johnson; Bama awbarn, Miss. State and SC.

Tracey Rocker; Arkansas, Ole Miss., awbarn, Georgia.

I was just talking Head Coaches. There are some very well traveled assistants, and coordinators within the SEC. Chavis was DC at UT, LSU and A&M. If you count all coaching positions, Muschamp was at LSU, Florida, aubrun (twice) and SC.

Finebaum on Jox this morning saying that Butch Jones is done. Says that UT powers don't want to look like they are missing the boat because of UF and that they are already looking. Jones probably begged them to finish the year with this team, reduce the buyout and then he would leave. It is really comical that he wasn't gone after their UGA game.

Butch Jones must have some BIG TIME dirt on somebody important at UcheaT. As in, pictures of one of them fucking a goat. Somebody there is too scared to fire him for some reason.

The AD is brand new! Lurking over on volnation and some have said that he has let it slip that he didn't want to fire any "big" sport coach in his first year. Also, some are saying that the president and AD are trying to take back a lot of the power that some boosters have held in the past.

I hope he gives Jones an extension and a raise! After all, the champion of life only needs two, maybe three more years at most before the viles will be competitive again. I love it!! :hurray:

So let's look at the tally board so far:

Tennessee: Finally pulled the trigger putting them in line to go after coaches who aren't coaching (Miles, Kelly, Gruden).
Florida: Last week's game showed that it wasn't Mac at the helm that was the problem. This may be a long term fix, not a quick fix.
Auburn: Gus saved his job by knocking off UGA.
Arkansas: It's not if, but when
Texas A&M: Still a borderline case. Hasn't made a statement but hasn't saved his job.
Missouri: Not a good year but his buyout may save him for another year.
Ole Miss: Luke has shown that he isn't the fit. How much will they pay for a coach to walk into NCAA restrictions?
Nebraska: The writing is on the wall. Can they outbid others for Frost?

I would think that the Nebraska job will be Frost's as soon as they call. You are several coaches removed from Osbourne and a return to your alma mater!! Nebraska has the bank to make it happen.

So, Bleacher Report put out a snippet that A&M have decided to part ways with Kevin Sumlin and go after Jimbo Fisher. Anyone heard anything about this? I have found nothing anywhere else.

All over Finebaum and the SEC network. But still just speculation. Chip Kelly, Jimbo and Grunden, That would be the trifecta of coaching hires in the SEC.

I just don't see Gruden leaving his "cush" job for head coach anywhere. He seems very comfortable doing what he does. Before Butch was hired, every single UT fan I knew was on the "Gruden is coming for sure" train and of course that train is stoking the coal into the fire as we speak around here. lol
