🏈 Hits keep coming-Cam Akers Decommits

Yea generally they commit when they're 15-16 and then realize..."wait, other schools want me too? Well let me have some fun with this. Then they go on multiple visits and enjoy being the center of attention for a while until they ultimately decide on signing day." I don't fret any of these unless it's just before NSD, generally speaking nothing matters until that period.

Fromm came out of left field... This one is not a surprise. It was a long shot to keep him on board from Day 1. Mainly because he's from Mississippi but also because we have the top RB in the class committed in Harris. Would could be the gold lining... That maybe Harris will feel more comfortable staying on board now.

If a person's word and commitment is no good, what does that tell you about that person?

Depends.

I'm sure LSU and Miami Dolphins fans said the same thing about Nick Saban.

I guess we could point out that Kirby was under contract here when he bolted for UGA...

Bottom line - College football is business first and foremost. In business, people are going to do what's best for them. I see no issue with a kid bolting for what he believes to be a better opportunity... Especially considering there are constant changes in leadership at the universities that are vying for their services.

Overlook and oversee don't mean the same thing. But, look and see do. That's among things like the "K" in knife that makes the English language so difficult as a second language.

I believe people get too hung up on the word commitment. It's a recruiting industry title assigned to a players status. It's deceiving when taken literally, but it doesn't mean all these kids and parents are practicing deception.

(...and there's my "waxing poetic" moment of March...)

No one in life, now, or ever is or will ever be 100% honest about everything in their life, it is impossible. I agree with you TerryP, overlook and oversee don't mean the same thing, but I disagree about look and see, they do not mean the same thing. Have you ever been to the market and walked up and down all the aisles looking for a certain item and don't see it just to have it pointed out to you by someone and it be right in front of you? I am old school and have been taught that in the end when all is said and done and your time is up, the only thing left that really matters is your good name and your word. As I already stated, nobody is 100% honest 100% of the time, but the world now days is mostly full of people of all ages who say one thing and do another on too much of a regular basis. As much disdain as I have for people who say one thing and do another, it has become common for people of all ages to renege on their word, their commitment, their pledge or obligations. Right or wrong, that is how I feel about it.

In this case, the kid gave his word under certain circumstances. He is clearly a Kirby Smart fan. When Kirby left, why wouldn't he re evaluate? The circumstances he "committed" to had changed

Akers has had Ole Pi$$ in his ear ever since he committed to us. I just don't take any stock in to these kids saying something like being committed. It goes along with the words "listen and hear". If you "hear" it, you have noise, but if you "listen", it has meaning. When pen meets paper, then I will get excited or upset about one of these kids going elsewhere. Like I said on the Fromm thread, Saban does a decent job on this recruiting thing. I trust him and his staff. A lot of naysayers were forcasting doom and gloom just a couple of months ago and it ended up being a decent take. I'll take a Natty run and some excitement on signing day over being done after a bowl and a class all but wrapped up, ANY DAY!!!

Has the saying, commit to the school, not the coach, not been expressed enough? I'm nowhere close to any high school program as I have ever been out for a while and my kids are too young, but I have even heard it expressed countless times and have heard speeches on television being given given to major recruits exactly about this message. If Smart was his guy, how is Georgia not automatically his front runner at the moment? I understand it may have you thinking when a coach leaves, but in all honesty, was it not the facilities, the TV time, the pedigree of the program, the future teammates, and the NFL prospective that made your decision. Hence I didn't add academics. I'm sorry, but one coach, even at 17 shouldn't make your decision.

No different than work. Commit to the job, not the manager. Re-orgs happen all the time in corporate america...

Your one and only moment.

No more of that shite for the rest of the month, heard?

And people leave their job, or re assess their job opportunities all the time.

Would you take a job offer if you feel another job offer is going to be better for your career? Especially when things have changed since your original offer?

Of course not.

(Bamafan334 - I apologize, I thought this was the Fromm thread when I used that particular reference)

Depends on where I'm at in life and what need I'm trying to solve for. Very common for folks to change employers or teams in my line of business (IT) because they don't like their current status.

In all honestly, sounds to me like we went a bit cold on him.
