šŸˆ Hiring Florida's Meyer to replace Weis would be good for Notre Dame

Here comes the rumors? This rumor has been hanging out in South Bend so long that it has Tenure and its own parking spot. It was seated in the faculty section at the Stadium Saturday...rooting for the Huskies.

If this were to go down, it would put an end to the "SABAN makes 4 Million" stuff. This is without a doubt the glory years for deep pocketed Florida. What would they give to hold on to that? What would Notre Dame have to give to trump that? Then add the 10-18MM that they would have to begin with for the Weis buy out.

This could be a close call that is sent up to the booth...in the Vatican. One simple does not parade around wearing a Pope Urban jersey (i.e. he named for after a Pope) then Heisman the church. (Is Excommunication and option in contract negotiations with the Catholic Church?)

CUM would have to change his name, which would be a chance to gain some of that STREET-CRED that Kiffin has. So what would CUM's new rapper name be? "Red Zone"? "1st Down"? Or, he could insist upon people doing the Gator Chop in place of speaking his name and use ">" in written form (shades of Prince and his odd symbol), to which everyone would quickly begin calling him "the Damned to Hell formerly know as Urban".

i love these things, as it seems that everyone forgets we are sitting on the best damn coach in football. we all better be prepared for a few schools to make a big run for Coach Saban as well.

In Bama's defense, WRT trying to keep Saban, what could another school offer him that Bama has not already given, or that we would not match?
Seriously. What is the answer to this question?

We made him the highest paid coach in the game when he came. When we wanted to throw more money at him he passed it down to this Assistants. We have shown him our support by giving him and exptension, WHICH HE TOOK. He's on the cover of FORBES as the Most Powerful Coach in America. He wanted a larger stadium, and will have it. The fan-base, which had a bad reputation, is now with-the-program. He can't go to another conference with more TV game, or a better shot at the National Title. And - now his coaching competition is being targeted in such a way that would take them off his schedule.

Honestly, how could it get better?

the same question could be said for Urban in my opinion, he has everything he wants at Florida.

bottom line coaches leave - I don't understand it, but they do.

Why would URBAN leave? Because he has repeatedly said that his dream job is elsewhere...something that we have not heard from Saban.

Coaches don't leave for no-good-reason, and whereas Urban potentially has that good reason (i.e. an offer from his chosen dream job), CNS has not approached having the same at anywhere else but Alabama.

I still would like to hear an argument for why CNS would leave. What school is he going to take him? What will be cited as the reasons for why that school is better than Bama?

There are people that don't think Meyer would leave but I see him bailing. Mainly because I think Meyer is a big-time egomaniac and needs to be the savior of Notre Dame. Meyer is pretty much king in Florida, but he'd be devine in South Bend with all of the little domers catering to his every whim. Tebow is leaving, and expectations at Florida might be reaching a point where Meyer knows he can't produce at the same level and keep people happy. I see this as Meyer's time to jump, and I think he will. I suspect a lot will depend on his wife though. That might be the only thing that keeps him in Florida.

What's going to drive you people crazy though is this; The media hypocrisy that is going to follow. mark it down now. No one will say a word about it, atleast not on ESPN. If he continually lies and then ends up taking the Notre Dame job they'll praise his high character and play the whole "dream job/he's catholic" card to no end. The only thing keeping it from being a perfect storm for Notre Dame is that Tebow the wonder child won't be going with him. Can you only imagine!?

EDIT::

Sorry, but I should have also added that if Meyer doesn't take the job, it's going to be Kelly from Cinci. That's the popular name out there right now other than Meyer. There are people saying that "according to what they know or have heard from sources" Kelly is the man. Take that FWIW though.

This thread was a good read. A few of my thoughts:

1) IF Urban bolts for the Golden Domers, not much will be made of his contract because Notre Dame doesn't have to divulge his contract amount because they are a private University. Speculation would be rampant but that's all it will be.

2) Notre Dame is Urban Meyer's coup de grâce. I don't think he has designs on the NFL because his "system" is anything but pro.

3) I personally think Bob Stoops is one heck of a coach but I don't think he gains anything by going to Notre Dame that he can't get at OU. If suitors come calling for Stoops, OU will counter.

4) There could be a lot of jobs open at the end of this season. It will be interesting to watch the coaching carousel unfold this off season.
