🏈 Harmon

People can say what they want, but I'm telling you unless our playcalling improves this game will be closer than most want to believe. Miss St is going to be fired up! Hope I'm wrong.

I am not sure I agree fully with what Gary Danielson said on PF, but he is right about one thing. We left a good many points on the field against LSU.......Not taking anything away from our AWESOME defense, but we were fortunate that LSU's offense stunk. Mullins will have Miss St. ready.

I know you didn't but who says BAMA won't be fired up? We are playing for something big this year and our players know it and want it. They wouldn't be 9-0 if it were not true. Sure MSU will be fired up but I'm willing to bet we will show up and match their intensity +.

With 8 minutes left in tonight's game the score is Ohio 24 - Buffalo 21.

Harmon's pick?

I think it's more of "let me say what I want to say" instead of "people saying what they want." Frankly, it's been your MO as of late.

There have been a few situations where the play-calling was questionable. There is no denying that. But, only a few situations. The LSU game was a very well called game.

Danielson was spot on with his assessment of points being left on the field. Easily 14, likely more if Greg would have hit a few guys that were just wide open.

has it:

That is too close for comfort! :panic:

The only basis he has for saying MSU puts that type of score on the board is if their running game gets a large number of yards against our defense.

They can't, and won't, do it with their passing game. MSU's passing game is worse than the one we faced against VT to open the season.

It's a one dimensional offense. Period.

Its not just me saying it, it is most people I run into......but honestly it is the only thing we are doing wrong. Everything else is just fine so offense is the only thing that needs fine-tuning. I'm not fond of McElwain's playcalling and hope he gets another job but that's just my own opinion. All that matters is that he is keeping Saban happy, not me. And as long as we win, that is all that matters. :a:

I think that prediction is based on the fact that Miss St almost beat LSU and hung around with Florida, but Alabama is a totally different animal. Our play calling is a lot more conservative than LSU where Lester likes to get a little too cute sometimes. Bama will pound Miss State into submission because that’s what we do. I see this going a lot like the Kentucky and South Carolina games, close at the beginning (Bama leading 14-7 at the half) then pulls away at the end (winning 35-10).

The only way the outcome will be different is if Mullen spent the off week coming up with an arsenal of trick plays that lead to a ton of points for MSU. Bama even seems immune to that though because our defense is so well coached, you rarely see the type of missed assignments that leads to success from trick plays.

points weren't left on the field last satuday b/c of play calling. they were left on the field because of bad throws or bad routes which are both a part of any football game at any level.

on a side note, Greg seems to be very comfortable rolling out and throwing. i think against a blitzing team, that could be a real help.

Good point. I think even one of the "talking heads" picked up on this as well that Greg almost looked more comfortable when outside the pocket than we he sat back there.

Greg threw a lot of passes to the right side of the field the last 2 games. Of course it is probably because he is right handed or rolled that way. But we might start seeing safeties rolling that way in the next few games. May be why the Julio pas to the left was so open.

if you're talking about the pass that went for 73 yds and a TD, from what i recall it went the distance because of #15CB over running the play and taking a bad line on Julio who he should have kept in front of him. in addition to that the safeties probably did slide in the direction of the line and all the rest of the motion on the play which was to the right. Greg's eyes were probably as effective as the movement of the line --- he looked them off to the right and threw back to Julio.

I'm aware of that. Should I have used it, or she? I put the word he in italics for that specific reason.

As to what I said and in response to a few other things brought up here.

I won't say Miss. St. "hung" with UF. Fact is, UF gave MSU 14 of those 19 points on pick 6's. Yes, those are part of the game. But, those aren't the result of a Miss. St. offense hanging with, or having success against, the Florida defense.

I'm going to watch the LSU vs MSU game again. But, just from recollection, the LSU defense was playing the role of a matador that day. Very, very poor execution.

I DO like where the falls on our schedule simply due to the point it gives us a warm-up type of game to prepare for what we'll face against Auburn and more importantly Florida.

Vegas has got it Bama by 12 1/2 right now, and I'd say either that or 10 1/2 sounds about right to me.

State may hang with us early, might even jump out ahead but they won't stay with us for four quarters. IMO

I still don't understand the whole "our playcalling needs to improve" argument. Has it been questionable? A couple times... Is it some glaring weakness? Hardly. The play calling in the last game was fantastic. How many more weeks are we gonna hear "if play calling doesn't improve, we'll lose"?

I've been hearing for a little over 36 years and don't expect it to stop anytime soon!
