| OT Happy Thanksgiving for all you guys!

Happy Thanksgiving day to you all! We had ours today because one of our granddaughters has to work tomorrow. I will say everyone said it was good. Now to let you know I did almost all the cooking. Wife did the dressing. When you have time go to Our Life(s), check out what our great grand say when you sang Happy Birthday!

We do a regular turkey, and reheat a smoked turkey from Sam's. It's always been good.

Off thread, but my goodness, if you ever pass the eastern Heflin exit (second exit heading west into Alabama as the highway goes from six lanes to four) there's the old truck stop across from the new Love's. They do chicken awesome and cheap, but I have to get a small box of fried gizzards if I go through any time near lunch.
When I was 14 working at KFC in Muscle Shoals, we only cooked gizzards to order. Mainly because few ordered them and they cooked so quickly. We would drop the basket in the fryer and duck down on our knees and shake the basket the full 45 seconds they cooked. Grease would be popping all over the kitchen. You had to duck to avoid 3rd degree burns to the face. That wouldn’t have been a cool story to tell. I’ll never forget the KFC days working too young and off the books.

Wife called an audible and we are having a breakfast thanksgiving meal. Eggs, Biscuits, Sausage and gravy.... Works for me for sure...
Fifty weeks out of the year you'll find those in my kitchen. After watching my grandma make biscuits for years (still using her old rolling pin,) I started making my own back in the 80's. I MAY have bought them from the store...half of a dozen times since then? Store bought just don't work for me.

Literally, that rolling pin may be 100 years old. My mom told me it's the same one her mother used when she was a kid...so I know (since mom was born in '38) it's got some age.

Best sausage gravy I've ever had? Rama Jama's ... back in the '90's.

I prefer the traditional Thanksgiving which includes my mom’s dressing and turkey and ham, among other things. We are having to half ass it this year, but dinner tonight at Ben’s makes up for everything else.
I've been racking my brain since I read this last night. I can't remember who it was that mentioned Ben's to me...but, I do remember what he talked about. Shoney's comes to mind thinking about their "Big Boy." But, this was a grilled cheese sandwich with smoked turkey. I remember him saying something about grilled purple onions on their BBQ sandwiches...

Was down in Tuscaloosa back in Feb and had breakfast at Big Bad Breakfast which is downtown on 19th ave. Ever eaten there? Good breakfast and lots of variety.

Having a breakfast meal has been pretty normal for me over the years but usually at Christmas after everyone opened gifts. Christmas morning we usually added tenderloin along with chocolate gravy. Chocolate gravy recipe came from my grandmother (dads mother) that my wife learned to make from her recipe.

That's funny. Cocoa, flour, milk, butter, sugar...cast iron skillet...another of my grandma's recipes I use occasionally. I made it a few weeks ago to top biscuits.

No. I haven't. I have been through the menu at the Vicious Biscuit over the last three months.

@Krimson we were talking about hush puppies with peppers...look at their menu for the cheese and jalapeno puppies.

I started my traditional meal yesterday. In honor some you, I made a sweet potato pie, potato salad, cole slaw and cornbread. In around an hour, I will put my pintos on to start. A couple of turkey thighs will be enough to make turkey and dressing. My ham will also go in the oven soon after. I will be making peaches and cream corn on the cob. I made collards a few days ago, so I will be warming those. Will also make deviled eggs, slice a tomato, cucumber, a pepper and green onions.

So Happy Thanksgiving to all and enjoy that full, bulging belly bliss.

Corn on the cob. Is there an item that is served more often on holidays? You got the 4th, today, Christmas...

Green beans are in this playoff.

We only do corn on cob on 4th when it comes straight out of garden

Green beans..... always ( but from garden)
Mashed taters.....always

Christmas is family breakfast... i do all cooking.

Making me hungry

Making me hungry
I'm always hungry. And I have a witness; I'm skinny as a rail.
Mashed taters.....always
Good call. But, not necessarily mashed. Referring to the above...just finished a loaded baked potato and I'm thinking about "what's next."

I haven't bought green beans in over a decade.

It's almost a snack to me. I have six or seven in the crisper. All still in the husk. I split the husk a bit to stuff REAL salted butter inside with hot sauce. Microwave, three minutes...I'm good. It's a HELL of a lot better on the grill or fire. But that's the charcoal/wood smell.

This is the time of the year I'll make a trip to Whole Foods (in spite of the price) to pick up Queen Corn.
