| LIFE I'm not used to being off for all the holidays

It wasn't off the $99 rack at Walmart! šŸ™ƒ

Dude, it had to be assembled by a certified bike shop after it was shipped here or it wouldn't have been under warranty. I literally had to "test ride" the bike, had adjustments made to the millimeter on things like seat and handle bar height. I literally had a 30 day check-up on the bike.

IF they would have put a new stand on at CRC (bike shop) it would have been $31 plus labor (figure another $10) and tax.
That's what made it crazy to me. I remember you saying that about it having to be assembled and it being a Giant. Assumed upscale bikes would have better/more parts than the wmart rack ones and I've never seen anyone who had a bike that didn't have a kickstand.

They leave it off so you can choose what kind you like or do some choose to not have them?

Yes, on both accounts. I want to say there were seven different types at CRC that would fit mine.

IE: Size (length.) There's a center, a rear, and a mid-rear mount ... single, double leg. BS things like color, finish, etc. Mine is black and has a rubber type coating on it...ran in the mid $30's.

If you have a rack/stand at home and you lock it up on a rack/tree in public, the kick stand is just added weight and something to be in the way.

For decades, I worked in restaurants and retail. And for decades, the only days we had that were guaranteed off were Thanksgiving and Christmas day (and Thanksgiving wasn't a given, even at a restaurant).

New Year's Day? Work
MLK Day? work
Memorial Day? work
Independence Day? work
Labor Day? work
Christmas Eve? work

Now, I get all those days off (paid) including Thanksgiving and Christmas. I also get the Friday after Thanksgiving off (also paid) and either the day before Christmas Eve or the day after Christmas (paid) if they fall in the middle of the week, like last year. So I got Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday off, all paid. We only worked last Thursday and Friday. And now I'm off today. It's weird. I'm honestly not used to being off that much and still getting paid.

So my suggestion is this...

DON'T EVER TAKE A FULL TIME JOB IN EITHER RETAIL OR RESTAURANTS! Not only do you only get 2 holidays off per year, but it will slowly suck the life out of you and beat down any semblance of humanity you had left.
@sean back to the thread origin, congratulations on the opportunity to recharge. What do you do now that has the paid days off?

Terry if you paid that much than what a few more on the kick stand?

I have a rack I had built into the deck at the house. As mentioned, tore down the deck and was/am in the middle of rebuilding (until I got a bit sidetracked these last few weeks.) It's a 2-bike rack the city was tossing when they remodeled the library a few years ago. It, uh, ended up at my house.

In most cases you are right. Here, with the addition of my water bottle and carrier along with the stand, the bike may weigh...a lb more? 26lbs 1oz. without accessories. This stand, while center mounted, fits flush with/underneath the chainstay. It may take up a 1/2" of my ground clearance.
