RT @AaronSuttles: Ha Ha Clinton-Dix is suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules.

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama -- Alabama safety HaHa Clinton-Dix has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules, Nick Saban said after Wednesday's practice.

Saban would not comment about what Clinton-Dix did to specify the violation.

More to come as the story develops.

Jesus Christ this is ridiculous. I mean really? smh Someone that SHOULD be a leader getting suspended at this point is pretty horrible.

Has anyone else heard about Geno Smith's move to safety? Saban said it was done in the fall camp but this is the first I've heard of it.

I haven't heard anything about Geno practicing at safety, I must of missed that one.

Can't really downplay this one, Clinton-Dix was a big play maker in our defensive backfield, but it's nice to have a backup like Landon Collins stepping in as well. Looking at the rumors of why he was suspended, I'm hoping it's not agent related. They're just that though, rumors.

Saban said it during his presser, said Geno moved to Safety during fall camp.

Well, the rumors on the message boards so far are that he had contact with an agent. So, he may or may not be out for the season. Some others are suggesting that Amari also has had contact with an agent, but I don't believe that with him being in his sophomore year.

Great time for a guy like Landon Collins to step up and show what he can do.

HaHa's backup is out for the season.

I was never really sold on Perry if I'm being honest, one on one coverage wasn't really his forte and we saw a lot of that with these spread formations. And I like the guy, 27 and all.

Well I picked up on that, I''m with you on never knowing about that. Doesn't sound like a bad move though, if I'm being honest. He's one you certainly want to have in the backfield, if he's not in the dog house.

This could be something as simple as the suspension with DePriest in fall camp. Ha Ha may have skipped therapy on Sunday morning or came late to a meeting. Let's see how this plays out.

Also, Bama haters are having a field day with the timing of the suspension and how it "conveniently" happened after the Ole Miss game but before a month of cupcake play.

Always looking for excuses, I guess.

Aaron Suttles & D.C. Reeves report:

University of Alabama starting free safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix has been indefinitely suspended for a violation of team rules, coach Nick Saban announced Wednesday night. Saban said he would 't give a reason for the suspension. "...Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, is suspended indefinitely for violating team rules and policies," Saban said following practice Wednesday. "And look guys, I'm going to be consistent. When guys get suspended, I never ever say what it's for. So I'm not going there, so don't ask me. It's the way it always happens. If they do right they wouldn't be getting suspended. I don't know how long this will be, so don't ask me that either. That's the only new news we have right now."

Clinton-Dix is the fourth Alabama player suspended this season, including Malcolm Faciane, Trey DePriest and Geno Smith, who was suspended one game for a driving under the influence arrest in August. With Nick Perry being lost for the season to a shoulder injury, the starting role now falls to Landon Collins or Geno Smith.

"Landon Collins doesn't play the same position. We've been working him at that position," Saban said. "Nick Perry was really Ha Ha's backup. Nick Perry had shoulder surgery, so he would have been a guy who had experience who would have played there. But we've been working Landon and Geno Smith primarily. We moved Geno to safety way back in fall camp. Those are the two guys who will play that position in this game."

Clinton-Dix, a 6-foot-1, 208-pound junior who has played in 31 games and made 14 starts in his Alabama career, ranks second on the team with 24 tackles and two pass breakups this season. The Orlando, Fla. native made a crucial fourth-down stop in the first quarter of Alabama's 25-0 win over Ole Miss on Saturday.

Defensive lineman Jeoffrey Pagan said the team believes in the players that will fill the void. "He's a great player and obviously he will be missed, but I'm confident in the guys we have behind him and the guys in the secondary to make adjustments," Pagan said. "I think we'll be all right." -

Let's go ahead and get this out of the way. There are a lot of rumors swirling about the suspension. I, of course, have heard them and will continue working to confirm the cause of the suspension. Until then, lets focus on what this means for the Alabama football team as it stands Wednesday night. A lot could change before Saturday, but, for now, this is what it is.

What We Know: Ha Ha Clinton-Dix is indefinitely suspeded for a violation of team rules. What that means to this team Wednesday night is that he won't play Saturday against Georgia State. How many more games could he miss is unknown at the moment. But say it's more than one. Say it's two games and he misses Georgia State and Kentucky. Being honest he could miss the entire month of October and Alabama would probably be OK with games against Georgia State, Kentucky, Arkansas and Tennessee. Now the LSU game is another matter. But, there's five weeks until that game and a lot could happen, so I'm not going to predict the future.

Who's Next: The void is huge. UA coach Nick Saban would be the first to tell you that replacing Clinton-Dix will not be easy. He's an incredible athlete as he showed during that fourth-down stop against Ole Miss. Landon Collins and Geno Smith are also athletic players. But they don't have quite the same knowledge of the defense. That doesn't mean they won't perform well. Fortunately the month of October isn't the toughest of schedules and both should have time to acculmate into the role. Also don't be surprised if a player like Maurice Smith gets a look during practice or late in games. Not likely, but my point is that different combinations could be tried just like Saban did with the second cornerback spot. What Collins brings is a very physical brand of football. He'll hit you. Targeting could be a factor with him. He's more built for run support but he's athletic enough, as proven by his incredible special teams play, to excel at free safety given the chance. Smith is naturally better in pass coverage, so he seems better suited for the position. Is he physical enough? He'll have a chance to prove it.

Schlabach has a sense of humor about this:

Y'all know I have some "sources" and everything is off the record and nothing official from anybody who wants their name used... That said...

The staff found out that "a few" players, Clinton-Dix the main one, met with a registered agent. While it's not against NCAA rules to meet one and say hello, it's against team rules to meet with a registered agent outside any framed appointment done through the compliance office.

Saban wants such things squashed, so to make an example of one our "Stars" is a good way to do that. They will investigate this meeting forward backward and sideways all while making Clinton-Dix swing in the wind, lose playing time and significant status as an "elite" player. Should their investigation show more than just a chat and planning for the future kind of thing, as in promises made, contract signed, money swapped, incentives or extra benefits given, this could be it for Clinton-Dix.

While no one thinks that happened, the fact that he met with him in the first place knowing who he was, is a problem. He knew he wasn't supposed to do it and did it anyway, in the wrong way. Example is being made... Word is that he brought other players to "listen in" but they weren't directly involved like Clinton-Dix was...

He has not done drugs, missed class, had bad grades, or done other things... Just another example of greedy agents trying to get an advantage on a dumb player too soon... Maybe some drinks were bought or some food or something at most during the meeting... If that's it, they self report, Clinton-Dix pays back any cost of food or drink, three game suspension served and all is well....

All this is from sources that are usually pretty good but I've learned that when people say, "this is what I've heard" (not what I know or saw) and "You can't use my name", that it's not concrete, so take it with whatever amount of salt you want. I do...
