Ha Ha Clinton-Dix joining Dallas Cowboys
The former Alabama All-American is on the move in NFL free agency.
Safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix is joining the Dallas Cowboys in free agency, the former Alabama All-American’s agency announced on Thursday night.
The signing reunites Clinton-Dix with Mike McCarthy, who served as his head coach with the Green Bay Packers during the defensive back’s first five seasons in the NFL. McCarthy replaced Jason Garrett as the Cowboys’ coach in January.
Clinton-Dix got a one-year, $4 million contract to come to Dallas, NFL Network reported.
Clinton-Dix played the 2019 season with the Chicago Bears on a one-year, $3 million contract that he hoped would lead to a bigger deal this offseason.
Clinton-Dix comes to the Cowboys after they lost safety Jeff Heath to the Las Vegas Raiders as a free agent this week. Heath started 13 games in the Dallas secondary in 2019.
Clinton-Dix started all 16 games with the Bears, playing all but six of Chicago’s 1,073 defensive snaps in 2019. Clinton-Dix made 78 tackles, intercepted two passes (returning one for a touchdown), broke up five passes and recovered two fumbles for the Bears.
Clinton-Dix earned consensus All-American recognition at Alabama in 2013, then entered the NFL as the 21st player picked in the 2014 draft.
Clinton-Dix received a Pro Bowl invitation and second-team All-Pro recognition in 2016 for Green Bay. But with Clinton-Dix headed toward free agency after the 2018 season, the Packers traded him to the Washington Redskins on Oct. 20, 2018, for a fourth-round selection in the 2019 draft.
Clinton-Dix joined Chicago as a free agent last offseason.
During his NFL career, Clinton-Dix has played in 96 games with 90 starts. He has 522 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 16 interceptions, 33 pass break-ups, four forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.
Clinton-Dix also has intercepted three passes in his seven playoff games.
