🏈 Greg McElroy speaks out on Jet team negativity.

Probably true, and he's probably going to get cut for saying it.
Getting cut from a dysfunctional organization? Oh the horror!!
That's is easy for us to say when our lively hood isn't depending on it. I know he's educated and will have tons of other opportunities but I know he's not ready to quit playing. There is not a high demand for 7th round 3rd string QBs. They are a dime a dozen in NFL. For he record I agree with him and admire him for standing up and saying it, I just don't think it was a very smart business move.

There comes a time when the pissing contest must end and the fat must be cut! Greg is to much of a leader to stand by and watch this happen , starter or not!
If you take pride in what you do for a living and there is a certain group such as "Team mates" that do not and that affects the way you do your job then something must be said/done. Seeing that he is not in a position to do anything about it he said something. Apparently he is tired of seeing the tail wag the dog.

He WAS a leader at Bama. Leadership isn't a position of entitlement that once you attain, you keep. Greg is far from a leader on that team and he chose the wrong time and place to try and forge a name for himself. He hasn't earned the right to say things like this publicly.

If this were a player from any other school that said this, you guys would attack. If Cam were a 3rd stringer somewhere and pulled this stunt you'd rip for his arrogance and mock him for still acting as relevant as he was in college.

This was a dumb move and Greg has effectively alienated himself from that locker room. He is far from ready to hang up the cleats but he may have forced his own hand. You think the Jets will tolerate dissension caused by a 3rd string QB? As others have said, there are plenty of 7th round options to fill his spot--not a smart move. That doesn't mean what he said isn't true, it means he's an idiot for saying it to a reporter.

Sooooo this is what im gathering from most of the responses to this......

I'm in the military. So if i just arrive at a new duty section. I haven't actually worked on the aircraft yet at my new duty section, but i notice that the guys that have been there for a while are (for lack of better terms) being selfish and only looking out for themselves when it comes to doing work. Now as for me being new to the section, am I to ignore my core values that are taught and instilled in me from day one of joining the military because im NEW to the section......I think what he did was a great move. Maybe to him it doesnt matter what someone else thought about him speaking up. Maybe it felt like the thing to do to him and to him thats all that matters. He could have kept quiet and let the same actions continue along the same path that they are on now. As a fan i would love to have an individual on my team with that type of character. And no this isn't just because im a BAMA fan. When Saban first arrived at BAMA he made a statement that there were some players on the team that didnt want to buy into the system. Was he wrong to make that statement, because at the time he hadn't accomplished anything at BAMA. Yes he was a proven winner at the time, but at that moment what had he done at BAMA. Greg....proven winner but yet to prove anything in the NFL.

I am not trying to argue, but I don't want anyone to misunderstand what I am trying to say. I'll go with your military example (and I have NO military background so I apologize if I misuse terms or anything else).

Let's say you just joined the military and are fresh out of boot camp. You've had some training exercises, hooray. You are now put with a unit that has people who have been through 1 or multiple tours in Iraq. Now you decide to go and tell the media that your company does not take their training seriously, don't know what they're doing, or whatever and this gets national publicity. Now put yourself in the shoes of the guy that has done multiple tours of Iraq (maybe this is you, I don't know you personally). How are you going to appreciate this guy who hasn't seen any action telling you that you are not preparing correctly or are acting selfishly?

Basically what it comes down to is GMac should not have aired out the dirty laundry of the locker room for everyone to see. If he felt the need to say this, then say it in the locker room to your team. If one of our redshirt freshman came out and said something of this effect about us to the media, then we would be telling him to get out.

I'll shut up and say no more on this.

I agree with your point.

First, thank you for your service.

Two ENTIRELY different scenarios. My point was two fold--

One, Greg has not proven himself not earned respect of his peers. He is not in a leadership position. He does not earn their respect by airing dirty laundry to the press. Bid anything, his choice was counterproductive to his quest. I've played football and been the new guy that noticed issues. I didn't call a newspaper, I addressed it with my teammates like men.

Two, which was briefly explained above, you don't do this publicly. If you work for a multi-million dollar company and some of the execs seem off, you're not going to call CNN, at least not if you want to maintain your status as part of a successful operation...

All of this hoopla is BS. Greg was asked a question and he gave his opinion. So what if his opinion rubs some people the wrong way. He didn't drop any names, he didn't bad mouth the Jets organization, he didn't say that he is better than anyone, he just gave his opinion. Piss on the players that think you have to keep all the dirty laundry inside the locker room. Maybe if they would deal with these issues, they wouldn't be watching the playoffs from home.

I agree with Duder. If this was Cam everybody would be talking about he hasnt done anything, he's not relevant, he's arrogant, etc. But, because it's Greg and he played at Bama he's alright. The guy should've went to his teammates instead of the media.
