I'm tired of everyone parsing everything someone says or writes. Undertones, overtones, lilt, bounce, coy, playful, hateful, cogent, uninformed, tone deaf, tone woke, Tone Loc...
We really need some football.
It pisses me off he chose to use the University and its students as chum...on an optic driven medium, in an optic driven society, where the media focuses the optics. He just lost a lot of support.
Not because of what he said.
I hope all the morons on here angry at Byrne don't blame anyone but themselves when football is canceled so they could keep their "personal freedoms".
This is a very vague statement. Because clearly, not everyone is wearing a mask.
Personally I don't think folks are being conditioned to think that ONLY people not wearing masks are getting and spreading it. I think the influence is happening in regards to the only 2 things we all can actually control in this situation... That wearing a mask and keeping distance can help limit/mitigate the spread. To what degree can be disputed, but I don't think I'm taking a political stance by saying those 2 things are fairly universally agreed upon in regards to ways to limit the spread.
Do you believe in washing your hands in said bathroom? If so, why? Personally I don't expect you to believe that those people wearing masks stops the spread and we have football... I've said all along I don't believe that Fall football is likely anyway. But I do believe that the more folks that wear masks and keep distance, the less of a spread we'd see.
Ultimately IMO, you think Byrne is making a political statement here. I don't see that.![]()

It's Kevin. Stay away.If I was around @UAgrad93 and his wife, now knowing her condition, I would either stay away or throw a mask on for her sake.
You have been on the train of no football, and are maintaining that. I don't like the stance because in my heart I would like football and in my head I still see absolute zero reason why football shouldn't be played, but I admire your willingness to stand on your opinion and not move at the slightest notion.
As far as washing my hands in said bathroom, I will only do it if I do not have to touch a knob or push a button, because that effectively does away with washing in a nasty place like a sporting event bathroom or even a mass office bathroom where guys piss all over the place. I also know people aren't sitting there for the recommended 20-30 seconds to effectively kill germs anyways, so it's all just show to me, just like masks.
If you're that worried, call the fucking season and let that be it.
I don't like the stance either... I hate it, actually. But to me that's just the direction we've been going as a society. It's instances like this that make me more confident in that opinion. Because if there's anything both @TerryP and I agree on - It's the important of optics. And from my perspective, the ability of a school administration to limit liability and bad optics.
The point I'm making is that washing your hands is for personal health, safety, and cleanliness. I don't see much of a difference in the mask scenario.
And to me, the people who call the shots are that worried. Not about player safety, but liability and "optics". Which has me surprised they haven't called the season yet and believe it's plausible to make it through an entire schedule despite the sensitivity towards these optics.
Or how about you just stay at home if you're that worried? It's easy to push on others to do something to not hinder your desires, but how does it feel for someone to push back on yours?
Masks? How many masks aren't even considered to be effective? Now we're seeing reports where neck gaiters are actually spreading the virus more. So how can even being controlled and wearing a mask actually serve everyone else well if the mask you're wearing isn't effective?

Everyone's life has changed due to COVID. You don't have to wear a mask, but you also don't have to go somewhere where masks are required or where wearing a mask is simply a good idea. COVID-19 is very contagious and we all need to take precautions. If I have COVID, and don't wear a mask, and expose you, when you're not wearing a mask, and you catch it, who will you blame?
This pandemic has gone on for five months. Everyone wants to blame somebody else. I'm sure we all thought that since it was "just like the flu" it would go away once flu season was over. Now it's impacting Fall sports. Maybe if we all take steps to reduce potential exposure, it will start to go away.
The mask makers decided they needed a way to make money and began producing and marketing all kinds of face coverings. People were more concerned with appearance than effectiveness. No mask is 100% preventive. But they can reduce the probability of exposure and transmission. I recently listened to a doctor explain how to determine if a mask can or cannot help. If you put the mask on and blow, can you feel the air on the other side? If you can, they won't work. If you can't, or if the airflow is significantly reduced, you have a better chance of protection.

I would blame myself of course, but I also think you have to be responsible if you know you tested positive to stay away from people for a bit. It's just like AIDS, do you blame a person giving it to others knowing they have it or the person that got it not knowing anything? An 85/15 split, because you shouldn't be using drugs or having unprotected relations, but knowing you have an illness and not telling people yet continuing on like you don't is not being responsible and you can be charge criminally for it.
You make a good point about going to places that require a mask. The grocery store in my town is requiring a mask, so we opted to go a few more miles down the road to do out shopping. They gave us an option and we made our decision.
There are many people who have been exposed and, if tested, would be COVID-positive. But, they are asymptomatic and don't know they are positive. Therefore they may be spreading it and not know it or they just feel like they have a little hangover. I'm sure very few people are intentionally trying to spread the virus.
Are there 300M of these good masks? It's impossible is what I'm saying. This thing will continue to spread until there is a vaccine. I stay my ass at home most of the time anyways, not because of the virus, but mainly because it's simply not worth dealing with other people this day in age. I also just bought a boat and have been spending the last two weekends on the water with my kids. I am practicing social distancing fo sho.
There are masks available, but most of them don't have a logo or cute design.
That what i say too!Just wear a damn mask. You don't lose any Constitutional rights. No, it doesn't prevent the spread but it will reduce the chances of spread.
