Depends on how you look at it. We vote for the people who pass it so if we vote for people who say they'll pass it and hopefully term limits....

Two parties (mostly) in government. You vote for a very small percentage of them. Those that run for office base their appeal on more than one issue. Are the important issues in California the same as the important issues in Alabama, Illinois, Texas or Wyoming? When these representatives do vote on legislation, no piece of legislation is a single issue. Despite what the name of the legislation is, it will include junk or elements that are in now way related to the name of the bill. Bottom line: there’s no way it will pass.

I don't agree. It would require their congressional pay to be the substantive part of their income. How often is that true?

I do find this terribly ironic with seeing so many say "it's our messaging" that was the problem in the last election and the "messaging" now is "we know people will suffer, but it's leverage." Geez.

This isn’t just a democrat thing or just a republican thing, it’s a both of their asses thing and their refusal to work together for the American people. Every damn one of them is responsible. Take away their pay and make their asses get to work for us plain and simple. If the government shuts down then they lose pay until it’s back up

This is about the subsidies for the ACA, is it not? I'm not sure "bi-partisan" blame is apropos here.

I don't disagree with your sentiment here. But, taking away the pay check for someone worth millions? Yeah, that's like me refusing to take pennies at the store (which I do.)

Their staff members aren't getting paid. We can safely say, there's a group that doesn't give a damn about who is paid and who isn't.

I've seen it suggested some changes in filibuster rules could prevent this from happening. That was too deep of a dive for me to get into when I saw the mentions...

The ACA subsidies are one of the last pieces of increased covid era spending. On that front, it makes sense for them to lapse; however, the democrats believe this can be a wedge issue for them and want to extend or make permanent the covid era spending level. As with other areas, it's unsustainable.

This is where I side with those in favor of the ACA. As several of you know, our 37 year old daughter had a stroke in April, 2019. She was a full time employee at the Lawrence County library in Moulton, in line for the Library Administrator job. After a 4 month stay in UAB and in patient PT in Huntsville, she was able to go back to work 6 months following her stroke. Because of her stroke, she could no longer meet the requirements the county has for full time employees, she was made a part time employee and pay cut to minimum wage. Part time employees are not elgible for county insurance so she had to turn to the ACA for affordable insurance. Her portion started out at $44 per month. She had to move back home with us.

Her portion of the monthly premium has went up dramatically each year since her stroke and is now just over a week's pay for her. But with the ACA, it's still much cheaper than any other we can find. With her ongoing medical problems due to the stroke, she needs good insurance and Medicaid is not good insurance.

To us, the ACA is worth the fight and the government subsidy.

Covid level spending in all areas, including ACA, is unsustainable. This isn't a fight for ACA, it's the amount of support provided under emergency measures that the dems now want permanent.

President Trump should file an immediate emergency executive order suspending all Pay from all members of Congress... he can do this through the department of treasury, that pays them.. He should've done it a long time ago.
