Was reading a story on the online Tuscaloosa News site this morning and saw an excellent recruiting sales pitch opportunity for our staff - like they need my help.
Anyhoo, the situation from the article was...
It was be wise for our staff to take some game tapes showing our opponents continually shading their pass coverage to double Julio Jones (with either a LB under and CB over, or CB under and S over) and show them to a Ruben Randall or Pat Patterson or Chad Bumphis or any Top 5 WR recruit.
Would be a pretty tangible sign to show, and not merely TELL, these top players that with Julio on the other side you stand a pretty good chance to get one-on-one coverage on the other.
Or to show two that with Julio wide on one side, one of you wide on the other, and the third in the slot all three of you cannot be doubled.
Again, I know our staff has probably already thought of this, but the tapes SHOWING this reality would speak louder than any mere PROMISES that this might happen.
Would be pretty good news to a hot-shot QB as well. Knowing that he will have someone one-on-one on all plays - or be facing a zone in the stead (opening up the short game for a little easy pitch-and-catch).
Nothing like the play of your opponents making your sales pitch for you.

Last year, the Volunteers played a lot of soft man coverage, which got picked apart by Wilson and Co. But in the games to follow when Alabama couldn't effectively establish the run, opponents started playing a safety over the top of Hall, the Tide's record holder in most receiving categories
It's a strategy Georgia employed a bit in the second half earlier this season, and Ole Miss used last week on true freshman Julio Jones.
'They were cheating the safety over and kind of pressing him, pretty much putting two guys on him,' Wilson said. 'That's why (Marquis) Maze got so open on that touchdown because they were cheating over to Julio's side.
