🏈 Did Saban Run Up the Score?

He may be on to something. I mean, Texas wasn't able to beat us deep on any big plays and couldn't recover a single onsides kick, so Saban should have just taken a knee. He shouldn't have been running the ball that late in the game vs the 100th rank rushing defense. That was wrong!

No, with the ease they scored on their last TD and Shipley catching those slants. Along with their special teams play. Plus we ran the ball. Its not like we threw a deep pass to score. They were mainly trying to keep the clock running.

:bs:
and how many interceptions did we make in the last minutes of the game? i believe i saw 3 and the last 2 they went down with no one close to them. they made no effort for the endzone, clearly running down the clock.

I agree with Birdman.

We got the ball at the 27 yard line and called 3 running plays with our backup running back in the game. If the #1 rushing defense can't keep Alabama from scoring when everyone in the country knows we are going to run it, they so be it.

I say we take Saban out and stone him. Look, I had the same thought as most everyone else. I was surprised they didn't take a knee, but then, that's why CNS gets the big bucks. And, so far, the man has earned every penny.

I wasnt crazy about the last TD either. Bama has the ball on the 2-3 yard line with 52 seconds to play in the game. Texas may have had 1 timeout left, if any. All Bama needed to do was take a knee and walk out of the game with a hard fought, 31-21 victory. There was really no reason to tack on the final TD. As a former coach, I have been on both sides of the ball and it is always appreciated when the other coach does not try to show up the other team. The other sports boards that I frequent that have nothing to do with Alabama sports is blasting Saban for that last TD.

I do not think it was running up the score BUT I also do not think it was needed either.

Maybe Saban thought Mack Brown was a big boy & could take it.

Contrast that with the Florida game when we did take a knee...Saban obviously could tell Urban was on the brink of cracking up and didn't want to push him over the edge on national tv.

Or maybe Saban knew Mack would soon be whining about something anyway, whether he took a knee or not.

I do think Saban could have milked the clock but given the way the game had turned on them in the third quarter, I suspect Saban decided to put it away for good.

Having said that, Texas is a team that has dropped 41 or more on 8 opponents this season. I wonder what those teams would say about running the score up?

It's football. The idea behind the sport is one team tries to score the other tries to STOP them. It's funny to me that Texas drops half a hundred on teams and that's ok, but when it happens to Texas they whine and cry about it.

Bama came close to letting the game slip away by going ultra-uber-mega-conservative with the play-calling. In the middle of the third quarter! You don't go that conservative with that much time in the game unless you're up by fifty points.

Exactly! :td:

I doubt many real Texas fans feel we ran it up on them. They play big boy football and understand its up to them to stop us. Running it up is still throwing and still using your time outs to stop the clock. We didn't run it up on Texas any more than Utah ran it up on us a year ago.

The following information has been verified:

Against La Monroe, Mack Brown didn't pull McCoy until the 4th quarter when Texas was up 52-10.

Against Hapless Wyoming, up 34-10 in the 4th quarter, Colt McCoy was still in the game throwing passes.

Up 47-7 in the 3rd quarter against Utep, Colt McCoy led a drive where he completed 5 passes. The drive ended with a FIELD GOAL. The classy thing to do is go for it on 4th down, instead Mac Brown TACKED ON MORE POINTS. When Gilbert came in at QB mid way through the 3rd quarter, he was throwing it all over the field (6 passes in just over a quarter of play) and Texas tacked on 2 more TD's.

HERE IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF THE EXACT SAME THING WE DID:
http://espn.go.com/ncf/playbyplay?gameId=292970142&period=4
Against Missouri, up 41-7 with 3:30 left in the game, Texas got the ball on the Missouri 43 and ran 7 straight running plays! They turned the ball over on downs with 30 seconds left!!!! Missouri STOPPED THEM, however they had a 2 yard gain on 3rd down with 30 seconds left! THEY DID NOT TAKE A KNEE!!!!

Against Okie State Texas ran out the clock by handing the ball off up until the final play. THEY DID NOT TAKE A KNEE.

Up 28-3 with less than 10 mins left in the 4th quarter, against a team that had 93 yards of TOTAL OFFENSE to that point in the game, Colt McCoy was in the game throwing passes. Texas tacked on another TD with under 9 mins left thanks to a Colt McCoy led drive.

Against Kansas, up 44-20 with less than 10 minutes to go in the game, Colt McCoy completed 4 passes to engineer a TD drive making it a 51-20 score.

--------------------------------------------------------------

ANYONE who says that handing the ball off up the middle against the #1 run defense in the country is running up the score, is either a homer looking for something to complain about, a barner doing what barners do, or a total flipping idiot with the football IQ of a marshmallow.
