🏈 Hrmm: Did UofSC just allow Bama to score on this play?

Watch number 1 for South Cackalacky on this play. If I'm an SC fan.....I want to know what's up. Dude could have pushed Bernard out of bounds, but instead looks like he is trying to not get a block in the back flag??????

Beamer told them to let Bama score if they got a 1st down so they could get the ball back.

If I’m Bama I take the TD. Too many bad things can happen on a FG try. Remember Pappy in 1017 natty?
SC has some tall leapers also. I would never tell the player to go down unless we were ahead & could ice the game by taking a knee.
If I’m SC, I would not say let him score. I’d make them try a FG because of the same above reasons.
The Battle of Hastings was the Game of that Century...unfortunately, it occurred on the second Saturday of October.

I think if Bama had been inside the 10 and running a play, then yeah, I tell the D to let him score. Save as much time as possible, but from the 25 yard line, a lot more time would get burned and Germie did have to make some moves to secure the first down. Also, never put it on the kicker if you are the offense unless it is nothing more that from PAT distance.

Agree. In that situation, take the TD. It was ironically, last years Bama/South Carolina game where Bernard should have slid down inside the 5 instead of scoring with 2 minutes left. Some here disagreed with me at the time, which is fine, but % wise, it was the smarter play, And it almost bit Bama because instead of running out the clock, Bama went up 8 with just under 2 minutes to play. SC drove the field easily and scored a TD. DOwn 2, they missed a wide open guy for the 2 point play. 40 seconds left, they recover the onside kick needing just a FG to win it. Thankfully, they self destructed, but it was almost a disastrous meltdown by Bama when the game could have been put on ice well beforehand.

With Bamas history of kicking FGs. I make em kick it....
I been through the Papps and Fosters....missed...choked...FGs and missed x points....and i really dont have a whole lot of confidence....on our kicker....but based more on history. ...

Need miracle to score TD in 30 seconds......less miraclefor us to shank one

I asked this question last night and was told that if he tackled him, Bama would have run the clock down to :01 and then kick a FG. USCe had no chance to win. If he lets Bernard score, Sellers has time. Later on the SEC Network SEC run down, Dori Nok.... said the same thing.
Also, USCe had no timeouts so they couldn’t stop the clock. Letting Alabama score gave them some time to run a couple of plays.

I suspect Beamer told them if they get a first down let them score. If they tackle him there Bama can run another play or two to get it closer if they wanted but either way they get down to no time left. The Bama kicker has been very good at that close of a range.
