🏈 Did Saban Run Up the Score?

Everyone who's saying we should have taken a knee is CRAZY! BAMA had tried about every way that it could to GIVE THE GAME AWAY! ITS THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AND ITS TAKEN 17 YEARS TO GET BACK HERE! Texas scored on 2 long pass plays and recovered 2 on side kicks! My wife and I were convinced that Texas was STILL going to come back and find a way to WIN the game until the last touchdown! I couldn't believe how bad BAMA played and I kept telling my wife that we weren't BLITZING the freshman QB and BAMA was going to allow him to get into a RHYTHM! And guess what?! THATS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED! BAMA WAS PLAYING FOR THE NATIONAL TITLE IN FOOTBALL NOT CHECKERS! IF YOU WANT TO WIN THE GAME, SCORE,SCORE AND THEN SCORE SOME MORE! BAMA WON the TITLE, and no matter what the score was, TEXAS LOST! People should be talking about how BAMA'S DEFENSE knocked big time players from opposing teams out of just about EVERY GAME we played this season! And we knocked Texas' #1 player and supposedly the GREATEST AND TOUGHEST QB THATS EVER PLAYED THE GAME! If Texas couldn't accept what BAMA was capable of doing to them...they should have never showed up to play! I'M SURE TEXAS WATCHED WHAT WE DID TO FLORIDA....TEXAS SHOULD BE THANKFUL THAT BAMA DIDN'T PLAY LIKE THE SEC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME! We would have won 60-0! This is Alabama Football....Candy Asses had better stay home! ROLL TIDE ROLL! CONGRAT'S TO BAMA PLAYERS AND COACHES FOR GIVING THEIR HEART AND SOUL AND ALL THE BLOOD,SWEAT AND TEARS THAT IT TAKES TO BECOME NATIONAL CHAMPIONS! You've all made your fans dreams come true! THANK-YOU SO MUCH...

I wasnt crazy about the last TD either. Bama has the ball on the 2-3 yard line with 52 seconds to play in the game. Texas may have had 1 timeout left, if any. All Bama needed to do was take a knee and walk out of the game with a hard fought, 31-21 victory. There was really no reason to tack on the final TD. As a former coach, I have been on both sides of the ball and it is always appreciated when the other coach does not try to show up the other team. The other sports boards that I frequent that have nothing to do with Alabama sports is blasting Saban for that last TD.

I do not think it was running up the score BUT I also do not think it was needed either.
I agree. I have been on both sides of this as well and understand exactly where you are coming from. Your last sentence sums up how I feel about it as well.

Just wanted to get my point across to all these people who thought we should have given the game away! It's a wonder you didn't "hear" the CAPS coming from our house on game night all the way to ALABAMA from KENTUCKY!!! Football is a game and as in ANY game, ANYTHING can happen and ANY team can create a freak play that wins them the game when the other team least expects it, so you HAVE to play to win everytime you step foot on the field....We knew the second half of the game was going to be a struggle by watching the way the BAMA players skipped off to the locker room holding hands, smiling, and acting like it was alread in the bag. Coach Saban even said himself that once in the locker roomat half time the players were already acting like they had just won the game! I don't think they were running up the score, i think Saban knew that Texas was still playing with all they had to win and that TD was the insurance he needed to know that BAMA would take home the trophy. Up until that last TD it really wasn't "for sure" that we would win. This is what Coach Saban was hired to do and he delivered what several other coaches were unable to deliver since 92.

Isn't taking a knee, in a way, sort of insulting? I mean it's like saying "Here. We know you have nothing left. And so we won't embarrass you further by trying." There's no respect in that. If it's UT Chattanooga that's one thing. But this was Texas in the game for the national championship. Respect meant giving everything we had.

I disagree. I think it was important to put the game out of reach. Their QB, even though he was a freshman, showed the ability to score quickly and thus take control of the game. The Longhorns had also shown the ability to keep the ball via on-sides kicking. IMO, even with that short time span there was still an outside possibility that they could use time-outs and score enough to win in the final seconds.
If I have to choose between winning decisively or commiserating in a loss, I'll take the decisive win every time.

I've heard a bunch about Saban "running it up" today from my LSU friends. They also are saying UT would have won if Colt had played. These are the same yahoos who said LSU would have beaten Bama if their interception had stood. With these guys, there's always a "yeah, but..."
