Good for him .. my maw-maw and paw-paw were a significant part of my life as well . My parents weren’t so young but my stepdad dad was a yankee from south philly and was mean as hell . So I stayed away as much as possible.... my paw-paw worked in a cotton mill all day and came home to take me fishing every day I was there no matter how tired he was .... they truly were the greatest generation..
Beautiful read!! Reading it reminded me of losing my grandmother to breast cancer while I was a junior at UA. My parents weren't quite as young as Derrick's but we lived with my grandmother while both finished there college work and walked. I have to admit that I teared up reading Derrick's account.
I love being a grandpa....gran kids show a lot more love and respect than kids did...
And great grankids are great.....
And yes u do get to send them home after a visit.....
