| NEWS Deonte Brown, two others suspended from Orange Bowl

There are multiple news outlets that reported the use of SYNTHETIC marijuana by TM. He failed up to 10 drug test because LSU was testing for Synthetic marijuana; however, they didn't have a policy in place for the use of it like many other programs. So, although he tested positive for it... there was no consequence to be had. When they finally got a policy in place he was suspended from the team when he failed the next test for Synthetic marijuana use.

I have no doubt he used "regular" marijuana too....

Which would explain the contraband in his car and the "smoke" in his room.
I don't follow you... but I don't really care. I'm just telling you why he was "allowed" to fail 10 drug test before he was kicked off the team... Other than that, I really don't care about the details of what TM does or did.

He continued to pass drug-test at LSU for the same reason Les put Jeremy Hill's fate in the hands of the football team to decide after the sucker punch incident. He was one of the better players.

Alabama has votes that determine what happens with players all the time. If they already haven't, they will have their say with the three that are suspended for this weekends game.

While some give Saban credit for the two players sent home from Miami a few years ago, that was a leadership council decision.

Let's not forget Tim Williams also claimed he failed a lot of drug test while at Bama. He had his suspension--starting fall camp was one.

This discussion from my perspective isn't predicated on a judgment. It is what it is. Steroids don't mean anything to me. Everyone is on it, so it will always be a level playing field. Marijuana and other recreational drugs seem like a bigger social issue to figure out. Head coaches are going to reflect what they know is the norm in their own environment.

Great points... RTR!

This leaves my head spinning. I think this is what's making my head spin a bit. A lot of what you've said here is a judgment.

Alabama CB Tony Brown sent home day before Cotton Bowl

"We have made an internal decision to send Tony Brown home due to a violation of team rules," the statement attributed to Nick Saban read.
No further explanation was given. Brown was present during the media day event Tuesday morning at AT&T Stadium.

and Ole Dabo and the Tigga's where at it in 2015 as well

Clemson, which plays in the Orange Bowl semifinal, suspended three players Tuesday night for reportedly failing drug tests.

Coach is doing some reflecting on missing out on family time over the years. I have not heard him openly discuss those regrets in the past. Maybe he has I just did not recall it.

I didn’t realize he suspended the 3 guys. I thought he was awaiting the B sample and then deciding what to do. I heard him today talk about Lawrence being the kindest nicest kid on the whole team. Gee, never heard a coach say that about a kid in trouble,...

Why didn’t we send Tony home before the 2016 N.C. game...

They are suspended pending the results of the B sample, which is supposed to be in last night or today.

BTW, he didn't suspend per say... the NCAA marks them ineligible for 50% of games for a 1st offense failed drug test for non PED and 365 days 1 year for PED. Reinstatement pending sample B coming back clean. I'm not clear on if their failed test is considered PED or non PED, but I was thinking it was considered PED. Either way, it's not up to Dabo or the University what happens for a failed NCAA test.

If it has been a University test they failed, it would have been Dabo/Clemson suspending them per whatever their drug policy is.

I had earlier thought it was a University test they failed, but @TerryP had posted in another thread that it was a NCAA test. Upon further digging and reading online, it appears to be an NCAA test as he indicated... so they are pretty much screwed if the B sample confirms.

I believe it is safe to say if your team makes the final 4 then every member of your team is going to be tested by the NCAA. Ready, set,go.
I thought that was clear when Oregon was complaining about losing players--granted, was the only team that year--but it was quickly refuted they'd been singled out.

I don't recall ever reading a statement from the NCAA stating that every member of the teams within the playoffs would be tested. Perhaps I just missed that info. Nick's 1st statement didn't add the words NCAA failed test until day(s) after.

I believe all bowl teams are tested, not just the final 4 teams... IIRC.... but maybe I'm wrong...
