| LIFE CV-19: Effects on life, work, and sports

A few years down the road. Say..about halfway through the 2020's how many ambulance chasers will be all over TV and other media saying "did you or a loved have the Covid 19 Vaccine? Do you or your loved ones suffer from (long list of side effects) then you may be eligible for a cash settlement! Call now for a free consultation".

So, as I'm starting to wade through some of this stimulus bill the most eye-catching thing is unemployment... I didn't actually understand this at first but every single person is going to get an extra $600 PER WEEK on top of what they were already making on unemployment for up to four months... That means in Alabama those on unemployment will likely be making somewhere in the neighborhood of $850 per week to NOT have a job... FML

Pretty cool visualization of just how people move around. Hell, I drove 25 hours this past weekend. Imagine looking at trucker data, delivery services daily routes.

I still have people on my Facebook timeline going out to eat at the few places still open and allowing dine in. They are going about their business and having parties, etc. I realize I was a moron when I was in my early 20's (got the divorce to prove it) but these folks are not only doing it but defending it because they are young and won't get that sick anyway. Nevermind their kids and parents, etc.

Had a discussion with someone last week, we were talking about opportunities in the stock market. They thought cruise lines would be a good investment, which was an odd statement. Airlines...the government will not let them fail. Same for Boeing. Just listened to the POTUS speech from yesterday, they basically said their businesses are offshore, can't get taxpayer money when you're business is offshore. In the same conversation, the POTUS said that we need the airlines. Hint, invest in airline stocks.

You just can't fix stupid. Did you catch Dr Deborah Birx said the other day in the briefing, her grandmother accidentally took home the spanish flu and resulted in her mom dying (Birx's great-grandmother). She talked about carrying that guilt around.

Why I wish things were federally mandated outta the gate, seems we could have just put 4 weeks under our belts that way and be done with this. Still not a fan that this is being dealt with a city, county, and state levels. Hell, traffic here in North Dallas is still legit, not as bad as it normally is, but there is enough on the road to make you go hmm. Same for Denver on Saturday night as I was driving down from Montana. I understand they are trying to deal with hot spots, but people travel and can spread things (I'm a perfect example this past weekend).

US doesn't really work that way though. Feds aren't the supreme power unless the states allow it. Blue states would refuse just because it was Trump trying to do it. Many red states would refuse on power grounds. What would the Feds do, send in the troops? Pretty sure Congress could pass something and the states would go along with it, but Trump ordering it wouldn't work right now. Easiest way would be for Congress to use the old carrot method. Citizens in states that shut down for 4 weeks get the direct payments and the states get money for their medical systems and police during this time. Those that don't shut down get nothing. Works every time.

I ran into Bi-Lo to pick up a few things for "social distancing" yesterday. Two Boston Butts, a brisket, wood chips...and we'll be smoking meat all day. There's a bar in the shopping center (Tanner Hall Public House) that had their doors open yesterday...maybe a half of a dozen people in there having drinks. It didn't seem like that big of a "risk," considering they were all sitting a few feet from each other.

I didn't go in...rather, ran to the "dive bar" @It Takes Eleven mentioned a few days ago. Not for drinks, mind you, but for a keg of Yuengling. 40 bucks...half price of their cost. So, I'll be distant socially today ...

So what time are we supposed to be there...bring our own lawnchairs?

Worth watching Dr Birx talk, link below takes you to when she starts talking - from yesterdays presser. She talks about the models and the attack rate that we'd need to match the models...
