| LIFE CV-19: Effects on life, work, and sports

Has the death rate risen with this increase and continued it's 3%? Who cares who is infected, the problem was the death rate that everyone was concerned about. People get sick, so that is not the concern. Isn't the hysteria all about contraction and death?

I'm trying to understand why you keep responding this way. You don't seem to grasp how serious this is.

At the end of the day, the death rate might be low and I hope you get to say I told you so. I've never disagreed, but believe that the data didn't support the stance early on. Way to early to say how the mortality rate is going to end up. And I've provide examples here of just how little testing we've done to date.

Check out what's going on in Iran.

My concern, recession.

I got this from our old friend Howard a few minutes ago ...

The concern I hear that makes the most sense to me at least is that the death rate percentage really is not the main concern but overwhelming the health care system if left unchecked. If that happens the percentage of deaths will be higher (see Italy) because decisions will have to be made on who gets treatment and who does not. The "flatten the curve" montra that you have likely heard.

What may also overwhelm the health care system is the extreme measures people are seeing will have them going to get medical treatment well before they would have with the flu. Somewhat if a self fulfilling prophecy so to speak.

If your concern is recession then I am with you. I took your posts from before and a few others as this was worse than the flu from the standpoint of death rate and how it could affect our lives from that health standpoint. Another reason I am responding this way is because a lot of people are acting hysterical over this whole thing and appear to be manufacturing the chaos that is ensuing without driven results. The whole thing falls more into my side of the discussion when we look at testing and just how many more have it, have probably already had it, and how many people are going to get it without it technically increasing it's toll of death related to the illness or even being tested. I'm not worried about China, Iran, Italy, or Saudi Arabia, I'm worried about the United States. The thing I find concerning if anything is how celebrities, politicians, and athletes seem to getting tested more and more and that they are the ones being front page news, yet a LARGE amount of regular everyday citizens can't be tested due to lack of tests. So how are these celebrities getting the tests that no one else can seem to get? A lot of questions that need to be answered, and a lot of underlying motives we don't know about if you ask me.

My point initially, there wasn't enough data to support any stance on the mortality rate as it compares to the flu. I don't think many realized how serious this was initially and perhaps still don't.

With the new distancing guidelines, we may never never know how bad this could have gotten. I'm still of the opinion it's far to early to draw any conclusions just yet.

Looking at other countries provides insights in opportunities for how to handle things differently. Iraq is reportedly in a world of trouble, it could be really bad for them. There are numerous videos of people licking temples/shrines. I'm left shaking my head.

If you have money you can get pretty much anything. Private companies do testing. The Brooklyn Nets hired a company to come in and test their players so that's how Durant found out.

Gotcha. But if testing kits are in such limited supply, how are these companies testing? Or are they the ones that stockpiled them making limited availability elsewhere?

I don’t usually watch WWE but was curious how this would play out concerning the upcoming PPV Wrestlemania. It would feel a bit odd I’m sure.

WWE statement regarding WrestleMania 36
"In coordination with local partners and government officials, WrestleMania and all related events in Tampa Bay will not take place. However, WrestleMania will still stream live on Sunday, April 5 at 7 pm ET on WWE Network and be available on pay-per-view. Only essential personnel will be on the closed set at WWE’s training facility in Orlando, Florida to produce WrestleMania."

You missed the part that mentioned the wrestlers will be practicing social distancing from each other. It'll be a little more fake than usual.
