when asked about the UNC/Agents thing...seriously, priceless.

"Yeah, the agents," he said. "I'm not going to comment on coaches that do things that they have been accused of doing. I don't really know anything about this. I haven't thought about it. It's not important to me. I'm worried about South Carolina. So if you want to talk about that, we'll talk about that. But I'm not really going to talk about this anymore."
John Blake is not a pimp?

"Is that South Carolina?" Saban said. "I guess I must stutter. Did I stutter? I'm not very clear on how I articulate. Maybe I need to go back to West Virginia and get some more hillbilly slang and maybe everybody can understand me a little better."

That was Cecil...

I have to say, the 1st time I garnered a little respect for Saban was while he was at LSU and was asked about Alabama and its problems with the NCAA. He flatly declined to comment while every other coach had a field day. He was also just about as frustrated too.

that was a pretty asinine question about Ingram. Coach Saban u could tell got irritated after the Blake question got brought up again especially after the guy made the smart a** "pimp" comment.

And you guys wonder why Saban intimidates me.

Not that I would ever ask such a question but still. I know I'll be the odd one out here, but sometimes Saban goes a little overboard. I mean what was up with the hillbilly slang comment. C'mon, that was a little much. If it was Cecil he acted that way with I'll be very disappointed. Cecil should never be treated like that.

I think he does have a tremendous temper, and if he can't be in control of something that temper shows. Why have a press conference at all if you simply want to talk about what you want to say and answer "questions" about what you want to answer? If that's the way it is, I think he would be better served to simply release press statements or say "no comment". If he did either we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Saban likes control. When he's in control, he's comfortable. He gets very uncomfortable when others try to manipulate his response in the interest of 'sound bites' - which is pretty much 90% of the media. When he is uncomfortable, he goes on the attack. To 'push his buttons', many in the media try to make him uncomfortable so he'll go on the attack. This only seems to happen once or twice during a press conference - just enough for the media to get their sound bites. Then they ease up.

Cliff notes

CNS:
we made some good progress
we need to continue to get better
kudos to the following players: .....
let me say before I take questions that i don't want to talk about X because it has nothing to do with this week's game
Reporter:
"What about X?"
CNS:
"I told you I didn't want to talk about X, you hick!"
Reporters:
furiously scribbling their sound bite for the week
press conference continues
bla bla bla

i kinda took offense to the hillbilly slang comment. i didnt watch the video to see exactly what context it was said in but i took it as you people in alabama will only understand me if i dumb it down hillbilly style.

i'm sure thats not what he meant

He called out the fans on at least one occasion last year, if memory serves. He can be as rude as he likes and we, the fans which includes me, just eat it up. We make excuses for his uncouth comments.

Honestly, I don't care what he says. I just care that he does the job he is paid to do for the team that I cheer for. I just find it humorous how so many of the fans take up for him, your case just being one in point.

Saban used plain and simple language to make it quite clear that he didn't want to talk about anything other than the South Carolina game. He's very focused that way. That's why we are winning.

I interpreted his statement as a sarcastic way of saying that he could dumb it down a little more if that would help the reporters to understand. Perhaps he felt that, if he made the reporter feel stupid, he might avoid asking such off-topic questions in the future.

I really can't imagine how any Alabama fan could possibly take offense. A West Virgina fan, maybe. But, who cares? I'm not trying to delve into his psyche and I don't care if he insults his native West Virginia. He's a great coach and that's what we're paying him to do. I wouldn't care if he came off in press conferences worse than Les Miles. He wins. While that might not be ALL that matters, it's certainly a huge part of it.

Personally, I like it. Reporters seem to think that they can say whatever they want to anyone. And they can. Saban gives it right back to them in a way that only he can. I think it's great.
